Story Homes has submitted its finalised outline application to build 1,300 houses close to the M6 at Samlesbury.
If approved, the first phase of the 408-acre South Ribble development would run along the A59 Preston New Road to the east of the M6. Eventually, phase two of the Garden Village could expand to include land to the north of the A59 towards BAE Systems.
Story Homes has suggested that up to 50 per cent of the homes would be affordable and offered to key worker defence staff at the likes of BAE Systems or the proposed National Cyber Force project, which will be built next to the defence giant’s Samlesbury site.

John Winstanley, managing director for strategic land at Story Homes, said: “Cuerdale Garden Village is a unique and once-in-a-generation opportunity to address current and long-term needs of South Ribble and central Lancashire, while enabling the region to meet the needs and opportunities arising through the National Cyber Force at Samlesbury.”
However, the proposals have caused huge concerns among Samlesbury residents, who fear the loss of huge swathes of green belt land.
Last year, Blog Preston reported how Samlesbury Parish Council leader Graham Young feared the development would lead to the loss of the ‘green lung between Blackburn and Preston’.
The debate about Cuerdale Garden Village dates back to 2022 when Story Homes submitted plans for what is essentially a 1,300 home new-build suburb of Cuerdale Lane, which connects Samlesbury with Walton-le-Dale.
