How to Get Ferntail in Grow a Garden
Ferntail is a limited-time seed added in the Chubby Chipmunk update that’s a little different to get compared to other seeds. You won’t be able to buy it from a Seed Stall or get it out of a seed pack. Instead, you’ll need to participate in the Chubby Chipmunk event.
During this event, you can get a free Chubby Chipmunk pet from the center of the island. It’s beneath the sign that says, “FREE CHIPMUNK”. Afterward, make it an active pet in your garden so it can eat crops and gain weight.
Over time, you’ll gain rewards from the Unclaimed Rewards sign, also near the center of the island. It’s to the left of the Nuts NPC. As you hit certain weight milestones, you’ll get rewards. This includes the Ferntail seed at 24.99 kg, which is the 20th reward you can get. If you want to find out about more of these rewards, check out our Chubby Chipmunk reward list for all of them.
The nice thing about this seed is that it’s a multi-harvest plant. Once you have it, you can keep it in your garden for as long as you like and continue to pick from it to sell. However, you won’t be able to get seeds from Lucky Harvests since this plant isn’t in the Seed Shop.
Similarly, since Ferntail is an event seed, you can’t rely on pets with special abilities to get them for you. Such as the Red Fox, which can duplicate certain seeds from other players’ gardens. Dogs won’t work either, since the random seeds they can dig up don’t include event seeds.
