First off, I love your drawing and I really recommend people do this more often when thinking about their yard. Everyone wants to use a computer to do it but pencil and paper work really well.

Second, I’d take a look at your list of plants and verify that nothing is invasive. Periwinkle (vinca) for example is invasive in many areas of North America. You might also think about what plants could become a problem through spreading. Lemon balm isn’t invasive but it is a mint which will spread like crazy. Some people love that, others hate it.

And then I’d just generally recommend planting something native over non native if it’s just ornamental. Crepe Myrtle for example is way over planting in the south, and it’s native to Asia. In your area, there’s tons of cool native trees you could pick instead like Chickasaw plum, Mexican plum, white fringe tree, a native hawthorn, etc.

Please look into native plants! They support the wildlife so much more and aren’t invasive. 🙂 black eyed susan is one great example I see on your list.
