Dude I’m from East Texas my Aunts house had one right in the driveway. I would go there until my parents could pick me up after work. All we ever did was light people up with them every day. It was a blast I had no idea you could eat them. Squirrels loved that tree and we had mean smart squirrels. Never underestimate the squirrel or the raccoon.

Theres a few trees where my dad grew up and he said you should wait till the first frost to eat them and they can mess your stomach up if theyre not ripe.

I feel like the “wait till the first frost” is some universal recommendation for wild fruit but I figured Id share the info lol

At the top of a fruit, those are the sepals, and both the American persimmon and the many larger Asian ones have a four-point hard sepal cluster. The spiny little thing at the bottom is the leftover style.

The Asian persimmon market is commercially larger than apples, worldwide.

Ebony family, only member of that family in North America.

This is basically a shout into the void, but I’ve never had a fresh persimmon, only dried. Does anyone know where I can find one? I am in the Midwest US
