Taylor Swift revealed the sentimental story behind the giant cushion-cut diamond engagement ring that her fiancé, Travis Kelce, used to propose over the summer.
While appearing on Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the pop star, 35, revealed that her NFL fiancé was holding on to the massive sparkler for quite some time before officially popping the question.
‘He had it for a really long time before he gave it to me,’ Swift told Fallon, 51, when asked if Kelce, 36, ‘put a lot of work into’ choosing the ring.
According to Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end ‘customized and designed it with this amazing jeweler.’
Fallon gushed that the result was ‘gorgeous [and] even the sides are beautiful!’
‘I know! I look at it constantly,’ Swift admitted with a laugh. ‘It doesn’t feel in any way normal for me. I’m just like, man, woah. But it’s more than that — he’s just my favorite person I’ve ever met.’

She continued: ‘No offense to everyone else, but the fact that this is the person I get to hang out with every day forever, that’s the whole thing of it. You look at it and you’re like, “I’m going to hang out with him forever,” and this represents that.’
During the interview, Fallon asked whether it was true Kelce proposed right after they recorded the episode of his podcast, New Heights, where she announced her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
‘Yeah,’ she confirmed. ‘So basically, I think for Travis, the podcast was a distraction, sort of ruse to keep me not looking out the windows of the house.’
As it turned out, Kelce had secretly been transforming his backyard into the ultimate proposal setting while she was focused on the recording.
‘He put black-out drapes on every window of his house for the podcast,’ Swift recalled. ‘I was like, he is so serious about this, and I really appreciate that.’
Looking back, she realized her normally confident fiancé had seemed unusually tense.
‘Afterward I kind of realized, he’s walking around sort of nervous about the podcast. He’s like, “My heart is racing, I know how much this means to you, I really want this to be what you hoped it would be,” because we’d been talking about doing the podcast and announcing the album. I’ve never seen this dude nervous, ever. He’s professionally not a nervous person.’
Fallon joked that Kelce clearly wasn’t worried about podcast questions, saying with a laugh, ‘He’s like, “I know one question I’m going to ask — the big one!'”‘

Swift then described the moment Kelce asked her to join him outside, completely unaware that a proposal was moments away.
‘He was like, “Do you want to walk around the backyard with a glass of wine?”‘ she said. ‘I’m like, “I’m always gonna want to do that.” Then I realized exactly why all of the windows were curtained and why he was nervous — and it was the best possible case scenario.’
Fallon, then, held up one of their engagement photos, prompting Swift to gush: ‘Look at that! That’s what he was turning the backyard into — like a secret garden oasis.’
Earlier this month, Swift confirmed Kelce worked with jewelry designer, Kindred Lubeck, on the eight-carat elongated cushion cut stone set in rose gold.
‘She does all of her gold engraving by hand,’ the 14-time Grammy winner raved on Heart Breakfast. ‘I had shown him a video—I just thought her stuff was so cool.’
The Cats actress added: ‘He did amazing. It was like, “You really know me.” I didn’t know what I would want, but he did somehow, and that’s kind of a flex.’

To the delight of fans, Taylor and Travis got engaged in August, with the NFL star splashing out between $700,000 and $1,000,000 on her sparkling ring.
While appearing on Scott Mills’ Radio 2 Breakfast podcast earlier this week, Swift shut down the outrageous claim that she will stop making music after tying the knot.
‘No, this isn’t my last album, that is shockingly offensive. I’m not getting married to quit my job,’ she clarified. ‘I love the person I am with him because he loves what I do and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music.’
‘That’s the coolest thing about Travis, like he is so passionate about what he does, that me being passionate about what I do, it connects us.
‘There’s no point in time where he’s going to be like, “I’m really upset that you’re still making the music”.’

She continued: ‘It is the most fun thing to be able to support each other and our jobs are so different but also its quite similar, like we both do three and a half hour shows in NFL stadiums.
‘When I do them its a dressing room and when he does it its a locker room. For him its practise and for me its rehearsal and we both have teams and we are both competitive.’
Asked whether she will be hiring a wedding planner, the Cruel Summer singer said: ‘I don’t know, I think that like I’m right now just really stoked about the idea that I get to marry this person.
‘And so I’m going to think about that and then I’m going to put out this album and then I’m going to think about other things after that. You know what I mean?
‘Just to put you into a window into the psyche of where I’m at right now because that’s a whole thing. But this is a whole thing, like talking to you about music that I’m really proud of.’
