In today’s video, I’m taking you behind the scenes as I make some big changes in my backyard garden to prepare for the upcoming fall and winter season 🍁. I’ve moved my GreenStalks around for better sunlight, removed all my plastic pots, and cleared out clutter to simplify the space and shift my focus. No more in-ground growing — I’m committing fully to container gardening and my metal raised beds from here on out.

This is part of my intentional journey to create a more manageable and sustainable garden space as I continue my plant-based lifestyle. Come along as I walk you through the changes and share my thought process behind this garden reset!

Hey y’all. What’s up? Welcome back. Guess who took a class on this camera right here? Me. So, we’re going to be filming on the Insta 360. I’m going to make sure that the camera quality is A1. Okay. From now on. All right. So, let me show you what I’ve already done uh to the backyard. I’m about to finish cutting my yard. I started yesterday, but the battery ran dead. I was able to get the lawnmower to work. So, just came in from working out. I’m going to take a quick break, maybe a quick bite to eat, and then we’re going to get started on this backyard cuz I think that it’s like 80° right now. Perfect. Okay, so we going to knock out what we can knock out. All right, so today I’m going through everything I don’t want, which is those plastic pods. I actually have this brown huge container. It’s like a deck container. There’s nothing in it but ants. I’m going to get rid of that, too. Yes, ants again. Going to get rid of that, too. put it on the curb, clean it out real good, and just put it on my neighborhood app that I have all this stuff on the curb, and it’s up to them to grab if they want. I have these towers I want to move today. I actually moved this green tower right here. And when I moved it, I think I thought it was cool, but I don’t like it right there. I want to move it. I want to put everything back where it used to be. And all of my towers were in this space right here. If you remember, let me know. So, like I said, this container, we actually used to keep like the charcoal, the stuff that Garrick would use when he would come from out of town to barbecue and we would keep the pillow cushions in here. Well, the pillow cushions would still get wet, so we started throwing them in in the garage when we have storms or whatever. But if you see, there’s nothing but ant piles in here. They’re all basically pretty much dead now. We’ve already put all the ant stuff down, but I want this to be gone. We don’t need we don’t use it. And it’s just something else added that we have that we don’t need. So, I’m doing a voice over, y’all, because I’m going to actually listen to some very loud music. But, as you see, it’s gone. Christopher helped me pick it up, take it to the curb. Girl, by the time I got to the curb, somebody was already there asking for it. So, that was great. I just told them what was going on and make sure they clean the bottom so it wouldn’t have ants like in their backyard and stuff. So, they like, “Okay.” But, we went back and looked at the ground. There was no ants all over the ground. So, that was cool. I did uh go back and start cutting the yard again. Oh my goodness, y’all. It took me forever to cut this yard. Good morning. It is the next day. I’m outside. I’m on my regular camera right now, but I just wanted to show you what I did. I need to um put a more maybe a shimmy in the back of that. You can see how I kind of I don’t know what you call those when you um kind of make something level even. You use like wood pieces. That that one right there. But other than that, this is what it looks like in my point of view. They’re back to where they used to be. I used to like them there. And so this is like my little Yeah. my little area. I can come out the door and be right here and water everything instead of having it over there. I can get a better handle on watering. The green one spins. The other ones I just turn them around myself. I can get spinners once they get on sale, but I just turn them around myself, so I don’t have to worry about them like not getting enough sun. I’ve gotten into the habit of just turning them around. Um, yeah. So, this one doesn’t have a base on it right now. I need to get a spinner. So, I took the little black thing off cuz it was cracked. All right. So, the next project will be Look at all these pretty flowers. It’s early in the morning, by the way. I like being out here in the morning. Look at those flowers. Everything’s just so Yeah, the yard still isn’t all the way cut. You see that? Oh, poor lawnmower. It had some work to do, honey. Cleaned out all that. The mint. So, that’s good. Um, this right here looks like this. I was sitting in there looking out the window this morning. But, um, the outside in, honey, sipping my coffee. I’m going to go ahead and snip all these. Well, I have Penny come out here and snip those flowers. We haven’t been taking care of the okra every day like we supposed to. I’m telling y’all, it didn’t take two two days and okra’s too big. So, we need to get on that. This one will stay. I’ll probably just leave this one here. That one will probably just stay there. It’s my little walking path. I love my little wooden slants. They said on the box it won’t um it’s rain whatever proof D but girl they starting to turn. I’m so disappointed in the packaging. Um but it was gifted to me and I’m just dis disappointed in like the company itself and like what it claims. So I’m going have to let y’all know don’t buy those. Don’t waste your money. I like it because it gives me a path because I told y’all it’s a lot of water there and um I was able to raise it up so it wouldn’t just be like a lot of water. So, it is working for what we needed it for. It’s just fading. And as you see, the grass is growing between it. So, good lord. All that stuff we put underneath. But that’s okay. It’s doing its purpose, right? This one’s leaning a little bit. I don’t know if you can tell. So, I need to make sure that all of them are popped in. And they’re not. I can see right here. This one’s not. Hold on. So, they’re all popped in. I still feel like I could slide it over. So, it’s not But it’s popped in now. They were not all popped in. That’s crazy. So, that was done yesterday. So, I knocked that one out. Cleaned up this area. Like I said, cleaned up all this. Everything was cleaned up. Looks so much better. Swinging over here. This is the area that will fill out really quickly, I’m sure, once these start moving and grooving. The um Yeah, my mind went blank. Ah, y’all. We didn’t even weed eat that. We forgot about that whole little area over there. We need to knock that out. It’s a bunch of weeds in here. But all this is gone that was in front of here. So, we should be able to see um what’s going on in the garden once if we decide to plant over here for fall. I’m going to leave the peppers here. I’m not moving any of the peppers. I started to put them all up and put them in the green stocks. And then I might pull one or two and put in green stocks. Like the small stuff because I just want like regular plants over here. Like that little pepper might be moved. These little small ones. Maybe I might do that for fall and then put just like flower bushes here. Like a row of flower bushes. You know what I’m talking about? Like a a row of those. My mind is blank. That’s so rua. Yeah, they come in purple and white. Yeah. And they get really big. They can get as tall as this fence. I really wouldn’t care. Just be a pretty wall of ruella flowers. So, yeah. All good. And they bloom every day. I love it. Die back in the winter, come back, you know, spring. Yeah, we might do that anyway. And then it’s all free because I’m just going to cut off the ones we already have. The more you cut them off, the more they grow back. So, yeah. This is what everything’s looking like over here. I totally forgot to get the stockings from the store. So, I did not buy any stockings for our melons, but they’re just sitting there just over here disturbing bees early in the morning. Um, stuff is just growing, child. And it looks like they like growing together. So, yeah, I’m have penny come. So, I moved these over here. They’re not doing too well. They kind of in shock that were in those pots. I got rid of all the plastic pots in the back. Girl, my neighbors thought I was moving. They was like, “Are you moving? What’s going on?” I got so rid of so much stuff. Put so much stuff on the curb, but nope. I went ahead and just moved those in here temporarily. The ones that were in those pots. Look how tall they are. That’s what I’m saying. They’re really, really tall. And I’ll water them. They come back. They come back. They don’t. It’s okay. We have plenty of zenas around the garden. We’re not tripping. Yep. Not tripping at all. So, this looks like this now. Um, yeah, this looks like this. It’s all good. So, like I said, we just been taking from the back little pieces the back of these and replanting them. and they’re going to grow back just like this. So, I’m just going to take a few more as I empty that and just put them there just a little bit at a time. And we only need like two like and they’re just spread out. Like this literally is one. We’ll pull one and plant it and they’ll spread out on their own. All right. So, this needs to be watered this morning. I don’t know if we’re going to clean this up today since we did clean out that one. We’re supposed to get soil get somebody’s truck. I’m going to see if I can get somebody’s truck in the next um day or so, like the weekend or something. I just need a truckload of dirt and just to fill up all the things that are empty. Maybe I won’t because I’ve been really filling up. Well, I do need some bags. Maybe not a whole truck, but I do need some bags. If I need bags, by the time I pay for bags, that’s a truck. You know what I’m saying? But I need to fill up that one once I pull this out. It’s going to be filled up some cuz we really need to go out here and get all this out of here. Everything in here needs to come out. This one looking so good. I love it. So, that one’s looking good. This one’s coming along. I need to get in here and clean this out. Get some more of them lemon cucumbers. Need to get them out of there. Get Penny out here to use the Q-tips to be hand pollinate. I’ll probably end up pulling it out soon so it doesn’t disturb this, you know. And look how thick this grass is. All right. So, I think the last thing I’m going to do is clean this up. I just threw everything in there that was in my brown container. Um, which is not a lot. It’s just like sitting here at the door. It’s not a lot, but I’ll clean it up last. We have a lot of zenia heads that popped up on this one. That’s what I’m saying. We don’t need all those zenas. And I guess it’s nice that we have something growing here since the apple tree never did anything. It’s probably going to just be trash. Probably going to trash all that. There’s a pair way up there. I need to A company asked me if I want that little mini saw thing, which I need to respond to them. Tell them, “Yeah, send it to me cuz I need to cut this tree down. That one and this one needs to be pruned all the way down.” So, today, if the weather stays like this and it doesn’t get too hot, um I’m probably going to go online and see if I can order two spinners, maybe three. At least two spinners, right? And then I’m going to yeah order two spinners cuz I’m going to need them for this area. Take the plants that’s in the hydroponics inside, bring them out and plop them in here and clean up this. This will be the last thing I do. Then we can put this video up for the day. But um I need to Yeah, that’s why I say I need bags. I need like a bag here, a bag there. The soil is going down, but I I can’t really clean up too much. There’s still stuff in here growing. We’ll see. Oh my goodness. Look at all this basil, man. That’s going to be so fire. I’m just going to turn it upside down, let it dry, like in the laundry room or in the garage or something cuz that’s how much basil this is. It’s like a tree branch. You see that? It’s crazy. And this one too. And I’ll probably just leave one, but take all that out and clean that up and get all my peppers today. See, that’s the thing. I don’t want to get rid of So, maybe since we’re going to do the flower garden on the other side, maybe we’ll just clean all this out on this one and take the peppers that’s behind us and put them in here since they do so well here. I wanted this for something else, but what is this? Beans. Yep. Oh, man. So much going on in here. Okay, we’ll see. All right, maybe I should turn the light on. It’s kind of dark over here, but I’m going to shut this down and always put it away come like fall or whatever. Harvest whatever’s left to be harvested. Um, I had some stuff I started growing. Look at this. This already going to see you child cuz I didn’t really like the taste of this. Um, and let me show you something else. So, I normally take like the plant and see those roots and just pop them into like a grain stock or something outside. That’s exactly what I’m going to do. And then hopefully um they’ll catch on and grow. And I’m just going to put them on the back of the tower so that they don’t get too much sun and get too much shock. And then I’m going to use some root stem later. So that’s what I’m gonna do today. So we’re taking a break from the backyard just a little bit. Just a little break. I’m just coming to see Well, I’m coming to get mulch. But also, look how pretty these are. Goodness. This is why I don’t come to this place cuz Yeah. Anyway, I just came to see if they had any vegetables or anything. Y’all remember I bought this and it attracted all those hummingbirds and y’all mine died and I kind of know why now which I should have planted mine earlier than when I planted it. I got it actually when it was on sale. They’re 19 and pride of Barbados a bunch of hummingbirds. Girl, you can hear them all just humming in my backyard. It was the weirdest sound. I was saying I went to Walmart cuz I had to get some like amendments for my soil for me moving my plants. And when I went, I noticed they had pepper plants, like a whole new shipping of like our fall plants for Texas coming through. So I was like, if they have plants, that mean they probably have like gardening plants, too. Sometimes that’s kind of like how they work. So they have lavender, the little fake peppers. They grow so good, too, y’all. And it’s just ornamental. They grow so good. Look how pretty they are. That’s crazy. And then they have the salvia papaya. I think that’s grapes back there. Looks like blackberries and blueberries. Oh, wow. They have the olive tree. Look how big these are though. Huh. More papaya, navel oranges, citrus. I don’t know what citrus. And they have limes. Okay, so they have all these again. They brought all our citrus plants back out, which is cool. We can have citrus just throw it in the garage now for winter because our seasons are so horrible now that we’re starting to get like the northern snow. No, not really. Just a little bit. All right. So, they have basil and that’s about it. So, I just wanted to come by and see what they had. So, they did get some peppers and like I said, I knew if if they got peppers, then they got peppers. So, they got these peppers and eggplant. So, they do have the mint cuz remember I told you I want mint at the top of all of my towers from now on. They have the sweet lemon mint, the mojito mint. They have mojito mint. This is must be spearmint. Oh, this is pineapple sage. Oh, I want more of that. I got a lot of that. This must be that what? Chocolate mint. Which one is this one? Mint basil. What? Since when? What? Oh my god, that’s the weirdest smell. Get out of here. Mint basil. Oh girl, I’m making a tea out of that. And then this one is chocolate mint. Yeah, you can tell by the dark color. Okay. Well, I have enough mint I can pick up for the top of my towers if I want to go ahead and do that now. And when the winter come, like I said, my towers are all going in my garage this year. I’m not leaving anything outside from now on. We’re cleaning out our garage. We will be transplanting all our plants into the garage that are in pots for the winter season. Yep. That’s why I don’t mind getting rid of my uh greenhouse or whatever cuz habanero because I will be use utilizing my garage. Yeah, I’ll never do that again. I was going to finish up what I started but as you see that’s going on right now. So I was about to plant these. It was literally just like basically almost 100°. I was just standing outside. I came inside just to sound for a little bit little bit. I mean, it’s stormy. It is stormy, y’all. And yeah, that just happened. I I don’t even know. I was just standing here about to water my garden. All right, so we’ll do this on the next video. Have an amazing day.
