THE Greater Beveridge Community Centre is calling on residents to shine a light on the everyday legends who make their town special, through an inspiring new initiative, We Are Beveridge.
The project is designed to capture and celebrate the people, places, and moments that define life in Beveridge. Locals are invited to share their stories, which will be transformed into colourful artworks and displayed as part of a vibrant outdoor installation in the centre’s garden.
Whether it’s a fond memory, a much-loved local personality, or a treasured place, the focus of We Are Beveridge is on honouring the quiet achievers and community champions who often go unrecognised. The initiative welcomes stories of artists, athletes, volunteers, sustainability advocates, and others whose contributions enrich daily life.
Organisers say the project is a chance to highlight inspiration across many areas from the creativity of dancers, makers and other artists to the achievements of local sporting figures in everything from martial arts to netball.
It also seeks to honour women who are challenging gender inequity, celebrate seniors who continue to lead and inspire, and recognise faith and cultural leaders who help build bridges across communities. Young people making their mark will be featured alongside environmental champions driving sustainability efforts, as well as the many volunteers who give back in meaningful ways. Favourite places and memorable local events will also form part of the celebration, ensuring that every story, big or small, finds its place in the project.
To bring these stories to life, a series of free community workshops will be held. Led by local artist Justine Barlow of Sugarloaf Creek, the sessions will combine storytelling with hands-on art-making activities. Participants will also enjoy a bite to eat while connecting with neighbours in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Importantly, no artistic experience is required. Residents of all ages are encouraged to get involved, contribute their creativity, and share the spirit of Beveridge.
The final artworks will form a striking outdoor display, turning the community garden into a living gallery of local stories. By blending art with storytelling, the project not only celebrates individual contributions but also strengthens the sense of connection and pride across Beveridge.
Registrations are now open for those who would like to take part. Organisers encourage locals to seize the opportunity to help shape a community-driven installation that pays tribute to the legends—past and present—who make Beveridge such a remarkable place to live.
