Local green thumbs are gearing up for a trio of volunteer gardening events this week to prepare community spaces for the colder months.
Contract gardener Rachael Brown, from Trail Community in Bloom, is calling on volunteers to help with fall clean-ups at Jubilee Park and along Rossland Avenue.
The first event takes place Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Jubilee Park.
Volunteers will be tasked with weeding, pruning, and tidying beds to give the park a clean start to fall.
Brown encourages participants to bring gloves, hand tools, and water, and says anyone with a portable speaker earns “hero status.”
“If it pours, we’ll cancel,” Brown said. “Otherwise, see you at Jubilee!”
The second clean-up happens Thursday, Oct. 9, also from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Rossland Avenue beds near the Italo and Star Grocery area.
Volunteers will be pruning perennials and trimming back overgrowth.
Bright clothing is recommended for visibility near the road.
The final event, Jubilee Park Fall Wrap-Up, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon to 4 p.m.
Volunteers will finish any remaining pruning and weeding.
If time permits, the group will move along the Esplanade to tidy planters by the walkway.
Brown says everyone is welcome to join — and to bring friends.
“Every bit of help makes a difference,” she said.
“It’s amazing what a few hours of teamwork can do for our shared spaces.”
