#houseplants #rareplants #favorites

Uh, welcome. Thank you so much for joining me today. I’m Melissa. So, I’m going to bring you my end of summer house plant favorites. Basically, plants that I feel like I’ve enjoyed growing over the last several months, basically from like spring through summer. I don’t really do favorites videos that often anymore, but I do like to do them occasionally. So, I feel like I have some plants that are probably repeat plants from my last video that I did, but I also have some different ones that I’m bringing in. But I really love the selection that I have for you today. I think I have nine. Yeah, I have nine plants. There’s a little chister staring at me with his little pawpaw. Yeah. You want some attention? making air biscuits. You see these little pup balls? I’m gonna go ahead and jump straight into it. I have two Hoya on the list and one inthetherium. So, I’m going to show you those since they’re out here. And then I have one plant that’s not in my plant room that’s in the shop room and then the rest are in my plant room. So, we’ll go into my plant room last. All right. So, first Hoya up on the list is this one here. This one is Hoya Naba Wanensis variegated. I never know if I’m pronouncing that right. And she is a stunning Hoya. Now, I did recently chop her. I’ll put a picture. I like to take pictures of my plants before I chop them so I can know what they look like. But she had another strand actually that is just now starting to grow. So that’s where I made the cut. And then that’s some new growth coming in. So, she had like a longer section here, and then she has this vine here that I haven’t cut yet. I really like the pattern on this one. I feel like she has really good kind of like a creamy center. I feel like I like the I guess the variegation that mine has. And then she has a lot of pink on the newer growth, especially the backside of the leaves. You can really see the beautiful pink color like that there. This one was a wishlist Hoya for me this year. So, I’m so excited that I knocked her off my list. And I feel like she’s done and grown fairly well. I feel like because of the variegation, she might be a little bit on the slower side, but honestly, I feel like she’s grown a lot in 6 months. That other growth point just decided to grow on its own. Um, it was just one node when I got her and so it just randomly activated. So, I’m excited that mine did that for me. And I have mine in a tiny 3-in pot still. I haven’t repotted her or done anything since I initially put her in here. But she has been a favorite this summer because I feel like every time I go to my Hoya area, she’s on the top shelf in my rud and she’s one of my favorites because she’s right there and I always look forward to seeing new growth on her. I really love the modeled look to the leaves, too. You can’t really see it that much on camera, but you can see I don’t really don’t know how to describe it, but it’s really beautiful. So, she’s definitely been a favorite this year for sure. Definitely one of my favorite Hoya. My inner variegated polyura has definitely been through a little bit of an adjustment. This wasn’t my original plant. This was actually several propagations that I restarted from my original plant. And then I think a couple months ago, I think it’s been a couple months ago now, I had come across a strand or a small plant that somebody was selling that had some elbow leaves and I immediately fell in love with it. This strand over here. So, this was like a separate plant that I added in. And then the growth on this side is from my original plant that I have. But, she’s grown in so much. I haven’t taken any cutings from her in a little bit. I did chop the original plant up not that long ago, but I don’t think I’m gonna add any more into her. At least I don’t think so. But I really love how full she’s gotten. And she’s putting out a ton of new growth. I love the I love the strand that’s doing the elbow, like the mutation thing that it’s got going on. It actually had put out a new vine right down here. um right there. But it was growing all white. So, I went ahead and cut that back. And then there might be another node coming. If it grows all white again, I’m going to go ahead and cut it cuz the white, even though the all white is pretty, it tends to brown uh fairly quickly. Um the new leaves that are coming in have some green on that side. And then yeah, mine has some really beautiful color, too. I have I have some leaves that have some darker green to them. And then I feel like I have some that has a lot of the inner variegation, which I really love. Polyura is one of my absolute favorite Hoya varieties. I have so many different ones in my collection. I think the outer variegated was on my favorites list, but I think she’s probably my favorite now just because I’ve gotten her to grow so beautifully for me. I do see some podunkles coming in. The only polyura that has uh bloomed for me is my regular polyura. It hasn’t bloomed in a while. So, I don’t know if those would eventually bloom or do anything. I love the new one. I recently got the Jasmina, which I hope will eventually look like her one day. But yeah, they are beautiful Hoya and I can’t wait to see them grow over the coming months. I don’t think I’ll chop this one anymore anytime soon and I’m not going to chop this one anytime soon as well. So, I’m going to let them grow for me. But yeah, they are stunning. The anthetherium that I have really loved the most this summer is hands down my king of spades. I know it’s a bit of a slower growing anthetherum, but each new leaf I feel like is so special because of that because you don’t get a new leaf very often. Um, mine recently put out um a new leaf here. This is a new one. And my original plant just put out a new leaf. It’s still growing and that one is insane. I’m going to show you that one. So, this I took a clipping off the plant that I’m going to show you. So, this was like a little offshoot and that was the first leaf that I got and then this one came in and then this one has come out in the last I would say couple of weeks or so, something like that. I think the thing I love most about this is how rounded the leaves are. The veining is stunning as well. I just love like the swooping pattern that it’s doing and the color is gorgeous, too. Mine is very dark looking and I love the red vein. I feel like the It does kind of go away actually as the leaf hardens. Like this one, it doesn’t really stay red, but this one is still red as it’s still hardening off. This one’s in a tiny 4-in pot. It could probably use an upsize. Um maybe once I get another new leaf, I might upsize. But yeah, she is my favorite. And let me show you the original plant. This king of spades was imported from Indonesia. And so when I got the plant imported, it had two original leaves, both of which I chopped away. This one had the original leaf on it. Um, but this is a new leaf that came out after it. And then this is the latest leaf that has come out and it’s huge. It’s still expanding. There’s a ladybug on that one as well. And I don’t know what happened at the end here. It got kind of damaged. I’m kind of sad about that. But yeah, the leaf size is actually insane. It’s huge. It’s kind of off to the side of my shelf, so I didn’t realize it was expanding so big. So maybe that’s why it got damaged here. Kind of got crinkled. It might just be the dry air lately. I feel like the humidity has kind of sucked lately, especially with the AC running. It’s only been like 40 something. I do grow most of my anthetheriums in ambient, so maybe that’s why it got damaged here. I just can’t believe that size jump. That is crazy. But I love them and I love the shelf that I have for them. I’m definitely going to, I think, trickle some out of my collection cuz I have too many. But I will be keeping King of Spades for sure. I do have one more king of spades that I got from Cartel, but it hasn’t really done much lately. So, I’ll probably downsize one of those or one of them eventually, but I’ll probably end up keeping these two. Beautiful. Beautiful. The next one up on my list is one of my elbow regal shield allocations. specifically this one because the color has come in so good and I’m so I’m so glad that one of the corns gave me really good high variegation cuz it’s what I really wanted in this plant and the reason why I bought it. So for those that don’t know my original plant that I grew out ended up reverting on me. I was so sad. So, I made the decision to chop all the leaves away and cut it back in hopes that a new node would come in with some variegation. So, that one has come back in with some color, but it had some rot and I feel like it’s just slowly bouncing back. I think I shocked it. And so, all of the corns from her have come in with variegation. Um, some more than others, but two of them I ended up keeping. And I have one in my plant room that is still spitting some pretty leaves. And this one here is just absolutely my favorite. Let me show you the newest leaf because this one just came out. Yes, Cha. This one here, I don’t know if the camera is going to pick up the purple tone. It’s really hard to see sometimes. I know like the green stands out, but this one has such pretty purple undertones. So, this one is very highly variegated. And then the backside, you can kind of see the purple more. Do you see? And so the leaf before was this one, which has the sectoral variegation, which I love. And the leaf after that or before that was this one, which was absolutely stunning. The first leaf that came in was kind of more muted, but it had a pretty variegation. And the second one that came out was a little bit more muted as well, but it still had color, so I was hopeful. And the one that came in after that was still muted. So, I was a little sad. I’m like, “Oh no, is it going to be more of like a minty color?” And then when this one spit out, I just I lost it. I was like, “Oh my gosh, this is what I really wanted in this alocasia.” And so the last three leaves have been everything. It is going to push a new one very soon. This is the main stem right here. So that little bump, cha cha. The little bump here is going to emerge soon. Yes. Um, I currently have it living actually right up there, uh, under some growite. There’s like another growite on the top shelf. So, that’s where it’s currently living. I think eventually I may move this one into my plant room. It seems really happy in here, like right up there. But then I’m like, if I move it, is it going to revert on me if I change its home? So, I am a little worried about that. Um, this one is in pawn and I do need to probably upsize it soon. It is rooted. I actually need to add some water cuz it’s getting pretty dry. Has some nice chunky roots. I don’t know if this one has cored yet. Um, probably not. I don’t think it has, but I’m actually curious what like the third generation will be. So, a quorum from the corn from my mother plant if that makes sense. So, this is like second generation. But yeah, she is a stunning alocacia. Alba Regal Shields is one of my Regal Shields is one of my favorite alocacas. I love my regular one. It’s out on the patio and it’s gotten like huge over the spring summer and they’re just like a hearty alocacia. They’re so easy growing. They grow super fast. The corns grow super fast. Definitely an alocacia that I recommend. If you are new to alocacia or if you want to branch out and try like a rare alocacia, I recommend getting one of these. I do know these from what I understand can be highly prone to reversion. So that’s the only thing like buying any kind of variegated plant, you know, it comes with those risks. But I know this one like the elbow one can be a bit more finicky in that sense. But I’m really happy that I have what I currently have right now. Hoping it maintains and she doesn’t revert. And I’m excited to continue growing her. I’m glad I can come in here though and look at her every day when I’m in here. But yeah, she sits right up there. Okay, I have you right up against the window. It is a gloomy day today here in my plant room. So, sorry if the lighting looks a bit dark. Um it’s really overcast with the hurricanes out in the Atlantic. Um but one of my absolute favorites this summer cuz it’s been sort of a secret plant. Like I didn’t really tell you guys about this plant and the video. Yeah, the video before this one I shared the journey on a few alocacas including this one. Um but secretly I have been obsessed with this plant all summer. I got these plants in May. So this is amazonica alocacia pink amazonica. So this leaf here was one of the very pretty leaves. This one is the latest leaf, like the newest one, but it is working on one right here. And you guys, it has so much pink. I almost wonder if it’s all pink. I can’t tell. I’m thinking it might be all pink. But she is going to be a stunner. Such good genetics. I’m literally in love with this alocaca. I love alocacia. I do have some more alocacia on my list to show you today. I feel like lately I have been more I have been loving my alocacas and hoya more. I think I mentioned that already over like all of the plants that I have. I have really been drawn to pink plants as well. like pink variegated plants or just like any kind of variegated plants like even Hoya. I’ve been really drawn to like pink Hoya or ones that are really super silver. She honestly has been somewhat of a fairly easy alocacia. I have her growing in semihydro and she’s getting a little tall for my cabinet. I have her living right there. Actually, I am going to redo my Millsbow very soon because because of that reason, I would like to keep her growing in there. And I have two shelves currently. And so, what I want to do is I think just do one shelf or maybe do like one and then like a half shelf so that I can put like a couple taller plants here. So, I think I’m going to do that soon, like sooner than later. But this leaf here actually got burnt cuz it was touching the grow light. in there. So, I have to like position her a certain way so that she’s not touching. But yeah, this leaf is probably going to end up touching in there. I love how long the stems are on this allocation. I love how big the leaves get on this one. I think out of all my alocacas besides like the regal shield, she’s definitely my favorite. And then I have I think I just have one more to show you that’s been an absolute favorite all summer. So, I’ll go ahead and show you that one next. That one is none other than Alocasia Venom. I just don’t have enough good things to say about this alocacia. It will not stop growing. Like it seriously will not stop growing. So she has a new leaf here in the middle right here behind this one. Like this leaf is just insane to me. And then that’s the newest one that she’s working on right there. And then I think she might be giving me another one like right here. uh right here. Do you see how that’s coming up out of there? It’s one of the happiest plants. Like, I don’t know what I’m doing to this plant, but it’s happy. Um she’s been in my cabinet the whole time. She lives right there as well. They’re kind of right beside each other. I have her in pawn as well, and I really I don’t do anything other than refresh her nutrients weekly. I feel like the stems are a bit more hearty, too. So, I feel like it’s definitely an easygoing alocacia. It reminds me of Regal Shields in that way that it seemed very uh forgiving in a sense. I have let this one go dry several times. I had recently upsized this one with you guys, but before when it was in the smaller container, it had gone dry so many times. And again, like very forgiving and yeah, a really easygoing alocaca. I think my favorite thing with this alocaca is the pearlininess to the leaves and I love the veining and the leaf shape. It’s got that like stingray tip, but I just love the overall tone to the leaves. It’s so cool. It’s like a funky alocacia. It’s so unique, but it’s one of my absolute favorites. The backside of the stem is like a neon green, too, which is kind of cool. Like in the light, it’s very neon. Such a funky guy. I love this thing. So unique. It would not be a favorites video without featuring a monstera. And out of all the ones that I have to share with you, I feel like this one has been the one that I have been really excited for this summer because I got this one earlier this year and it started out with I think two leaves. These two here are the original leaves and then um it’s grown this one and yeah, three more leaves since. And this one has such stunning minty tones. So this is technically a nonTC tissue culture. So all the Monster Mints, I think most on the market are tissue cultured. So this one is technically like annoyed a no ID. It does grow so different than the TC mints. I feel like those ones are just extremely slow and they’re just Yeah, I just don’t like them. It’s different than like a non TC Monamint, but the newest leaf is here. Beautiful minty tones with the green. I don’t know if you can tell, it’s like more of a creamy than a stark white. It’s different than elbow. And then this leaf over here was very minty. They’re all super minty leaves. I feel like it’s definitely a very hearty monstera. very easygoing, nonf finicky at all. It loves semihydro and it’s done very well. So, easily hands down my favorite monstera I feel like of the summer. Moving on to beonia. So, hands down my favorite beonia this summer has been my variegated snow capped. I actually started a second plant from her. So, she is starting to grow cuz I wanted to. I do cut this one back often and I wanted one I wanted like two so I could do one and then I could do the other. Let this one grow, you know, so I’m not like having to wait until she regrows. But the two longest strands I’ll probably these two here I’ll probably chop from again. But this one hands down has been such an easy beonia and so beautiful. She got so many different tones of pink and green. This one lives on my plant shelf, so in ambient conditions, I don’t really do anything special to her. I just make sure she doesn’t go completely dry. This one’s in a 3in uh clear pot down in here. It’s not planted into here. But, um, this one I did upsize recently, so it’s helped with the drying out, but this one is definitely drying out. So, I may have to actually plant her into here or get like a 5 in maybe. See? Yeah, she definitely appreciated that repot. She’s growing some extra roots in here, but I can at least water her once a week and I know she’ll be fine and not dry out so quickly. But that one I’m kind of watering twice a week. I’ll like throw some extra water in there midweek. I’m honestly not the best with beonia plants. And I got like a new one recently that I really wanted to include, but since that one’s like brand new, I haven’t really cared for it more than a few weeks now. So, I didn’t want to include that one, but it’s been the one that I’ve been like most like loving lately. Um, but because I’ve had this one, I think I got this one early last year. So, I’ve had this one for not quite a year and a half. But, she’s beautiful, right? Stunning. I love the backside, too. No words. I love her pink pot. I love everything about this Beonia. No words. I’ve kind of been on a Beonia kick lately, too. Like I went because I got the pink macula down there. She’s like down there. I just moved her in my cabinet. I’ve been obsessed with like like I said pink plants. So now I’m like now I’m like searching pink pink beonas. I want more like pink ones. Um but yeah, I love her so much. We have another kitty that has come to join us. All right, so the last on the list, number nine, I think. Is this the last one? Yeah, this is number nine. I’m gonna give it to my filidendrin caramel marble. I have showed this one recently. She’s growing up because there’s a grow light um right on top of her. So, she’s like growing up towards it. Um but yeah, let me see this newest leaf here. I feel like she’s growing pretty steadily because this one was a new leaf and that color hasn’t burned in yet. Caramel marble takes forever to get for it to get to be like the creamy tones. But this newest one is a half moon. So whenever she fully hardens, that’s going to be such a stunner. I can’t wait. But you can see the only downfall with filidendrrons that I have, well one besides they get huge if you let them is the sap. I hate the sap. The nectaries. You can see how sticky. No you can’t. Let me see. I don’t know if you can see all the little droplets like this one here. Oh, there it goes on my bag. Like this one here especially. Look at all that sticky sap. So, that’s what attracts um ants to come in my plant room or that’s what caused um ants to come in one of the times. She did have an ant infestation recently, but I think it died cuz I had poured so much DE um in here and then, you know, we had someone come spray multiple times. But other than that, I have no complaints. Gorgeous filidendrin. This grew from a tiny tissue culture, so it’s taken a bit to actually get this big, but now that she’s like grown and to this beautiful plant, like she is stunning. And I’m really excited to see what she’s going to continue to do for me. Her nose is like all the way down here. So, I have a stake here in the middle. So, she’s not climbing very tall. She just looks tall cuz of her leaves being up like that. But, if I tilt her this way, you can see I don’t know if you can see how pretty. It’s hard to see all the leaves, but I think this one for sure is my favorite. This one here. And then this one’s really pretty, too, with all those tones. Ah, this one here, the sticky one. This one’s pretty, too. But yeah, very easygoing filidendrin. Um, no issues at all. It’s really enjoyed my aeroid mix. You can see all the roots in here. Normally, I struggle sometimes with filidendrin overwatering them. Ignore all the white stuff. That’s the de. But she seems really happy. I water her once a week, give her nutrients once a week, and yeah, she has a growlay on top. So, that’s all that I really do for her. I do have her kind of in front of a shelf on the floor cuz it’s really the only spot that I had for her right now. Um, but if I do rearrange, I’ll have to figure out a new spot. But I like seeing her, I guess, from the top. I can see all of her leaves versus if she was high up, I feel like I wouldn’t see her as much. But yeah, definitely a favorite filidendrin for me this summer. And I’m gonna throw this in as a bonus plant because I feel like it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t feature this one. There’s so many ladybugs on this one. What are you guys doing? It’s my monster flame. She just gave me a new leaf or he in the middle here, which has the most fine that I have gotten. So, I’m thinking I might go ahead and start an air layer process so I can get her chopped and replanted. Um, I don’t know what encouraged the leaf size jump. I think it may have been these aerials that I chopped and stuck back down in the soil or in the pond. So maybe it like helped get more nutrients to the plant. But I chopped I think four of them. Yeah. And I pushed them down in here so that they’re rooting cuz you know I don’t have her in a moss pole. She’s just clinging on to the cocoaore pole. So I think that’s why. So yeah, she’s my little bonus plant. So I hope you enjoyed my summer into summer favorites now that we’re into fall. I’ll have to do one at the end of the year. It’ll be like my end of year favorites. But yeah, a lot of repeat plants because I just love them that much. I feel like that’s one of the reasons I don’t do monthly favorites anymore because I feel like I keep showing the same plants. Um, but yeah, I love the ones that I shared with you today. Definitely some of my favorites overall. But thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed it and I will talk to you again soon. Yeah. Hello. Hello. You’re so cute. Yeah. You’re so cute. See, I’m just a cutie girl. Yes, I am. I’m so cute. Yeah. Ow. Don’t bite me. Don’t bite me. Bye. [Music]

  8. Hello Melissa do you still water & feed all plants during the winter if they are under growlights. Cactus and normal plants. Thank you for your videos. You have the most beautiful plants out of all the you tubers I follow.๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. I fell in love with the Alocasia Venom in one of your older videos. Couple of weeks ago I finally bought one and I loooove it. I also love that they all grow a bit differently in the shape and colouring of the leaves. So one venome from one source is not enough! ๐Ÿ˜‚

  10. Guess I need a Hoya polynerura inner variegated now, some Hoya can be surprisingly expensive. Your Regal Shield variegated looks amazing. Love! how your begonia snow capped is growing downward. You have the light source below it?

  11. I enjoyed this video and many others of yours Melissa. Beautiful plans and super relaxing vibe!

  12. I love the Begonia Pink Urchin, but it cannot survive in ambient. It is gorgeous. It is strictly a terrarium begonia … at least in my experience. Gorgeous pretty plants!!

  13. hi melissa! i remember a video from a while back where you showed what pot covers worked best with the repotme nursery pots??? i been looking back at old videos and having difficulty finding, so figured id just ask on here. love your content always!!! thanks for the awesome videos.

  14. If you're looking for pink begonia, get a Pink Minx! Super hardy cane begonia with massive leaves that when they harden off have almost a plastic sheen to them. They literally shine in the light. The leaves are very textured too if you feel them they have little bump/hook type things all over like a rex begonia.
