The Lady Bug Garden Club recognized several groups and had an information program at the Oct. 2 meeting. The meeting was held in the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church with Janet Bennett, Judy Canada, Apryl Dever, and Christie Williams serving as hostesses.
Club President Kathy Conley opened the meeting with prayer. The members were treated to a wonderful assortment of breakfast foods along with juice and coffee.
After the meal and fellowship, the members answered roll call, answering the question, “What do they think about when they hear the word October?”
Janet Robertson, treasurer, presented the treasurer’s report.
The group hosted several representatives of Blytheville who are joining in the effort to keep Blytheville clean and help beautify the neighborhoods, parks, and the main street area.
Representatives from “Adopt a Block” included Mayor Melisa Logan, Dorothy Erby, Janice Smith, and Melody Lawson. The guests gave an update on what the group has already accomplished and what they plan for the future.
The Lady Bug Garden Club presented Mayor Logan with a donation to help with their efforts.
Mayor Logan presented the Lady Bug Garden Club with a certificate of appreciation, along with City of Blytheville pens.
Councilwoman Barbara Brothers and her daughter, Amy Riston, representing volunteers to clean up Blytheville, gave an update on how and why they started this project and how others can get involved.

Sally Cooke, representing the Master Gardener’s Club, talked on how an interested individual can become a member of the Master Gardener’s Club and what their group does to help with the beautification of Blytheville, and what goes into taking care of the planters on Main Street.
The Master Gardeners were also presented with a donation from the club to help with the Main Street planter project.
Donna and Jeff Woods of Bee Keepers of Northeast Arkansas gave a wonderful and informative program on beekeeping and the process of making honey. Woods displayed several items used in the beekeeping business and offered honey and candles for purchase.
Kathy Conley read several poems about Fall and shared the fun facts for October about Hummingbirds flying north in the Spring and south in the Fall. Hummingbirds rely on nectar for their food, which is why they travel towards the tropics during the winter months. She also shared how the tradition of pumpkins on Halloween started.
The door prize provided by the hostesses, a beautiful mum, was won by Claudia Briley.
The next meeting will be Nov. 6, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, with hostesses Margaret Abbot, Claude Briley, and Tammy West. The guest speaker will be a representative from the Cold War Museum.
