Looking for some help on how I can do my front yard. I have about 1 ton of grayish rock that I’m going to replace my grass with but I the left drive way is sticking up a bit from tree roots so a lot of the cement is at different levels around the grass if that makes sense. I was thinking of doing some kind of border to keep the rocks contained just not sure what would look good

Speaking from experience, rocks get very hot. And will quickly amplify the heat in the vicinity. My suggestion would be to plant some well established fast growing trees (leave room around the wells with no stone), make a nice fire pit or add a bistro set (far from the trees) and surround it with gravel. Leave 2 feet of dirt from the edge, make a “lasagna” bed with 6 inches of mulch on top. Then plant native pollinator friendly perennials around the edge. Adding shade will
be clutch to not frying from the heat in the summer.
Every fall I have to rake and sweep up leaves off of the stone (from trees that aren’t mine) and throw them into the flower beds. Having a place to put the leaves. 1) retains moisture = cooling 2) helps ladybugs =pest control 3) gives the garden free fertilizer.
It’s been about 7 years and I still have to weed the rocks a few times a year, it’s unavoidable. Ive built mine to look like a dry river bed with perennial, easy to care for plants, and driftwood. It adds way more to curb appeal than just stone. I used a black edging from Home Depot that was about 4 inches deep and held in with pegs. Be sure to buy the thickest landscape tarp they have and be mindful to over lap it by a foot or more, while considering that any precipitation needs to flow off it, so consider any slopes or potential low lying puddles you might have.
