I’m making a vivarium for a chahoua gecko and I am STRUGGLING to get this wood to stay put. I’ve managed to use some boxes to keep them where I want, but when the silicone dries will the wood stay as it is, or is it going to droop? How do I get it to stay like it is now?

Silicone? My dude the wood gets set into the expanding foam. That thing later of silicone will never hold it up.

It’ll definitely drop. You’ll need at least two anchor points for it to stay put. You might try incorporating a vine or two other branches from other sides, securing them all together for more support. Serpadesign on YouTube demonstrates how to make attach multiple branches and make it look natural in a lot of his videos.

Is it long enough to maybe go sideways even if that wasn’t your original vision?

Can you find to buy or build yourself some type of translucent stand? Drill a couple holes in the bottom and stick it onto translucent dowels on a base you bury in substrate? In my head that works haha

You gotta put it in spray foam. I usually lay my terrarium down and then use wire or something to hold the sticks in place. The spray foam will hold them in place, silicone isn’t strong enough

Take the top off, put some sticks across it, and hang them on strings. Use spray foam to attach to the glass and background, once it’s dry it’ll hold a surprising amount of weight

String! Lay a piece of wood or something that will hold in place across the opening of the enclosure, then with string position your wood and foam around it. Works every time

Silicone on the background. All my heavy things are held up by silicons

You could do spray foam orrrr mount it to a vertical metal rod and sink the rod in substrate

If you dont want to spray foam directly on your glass, you should use some of that pink insulation foam board as a removable background and spray onto that. It also gives you more freedom in sculpting.

What I did when I made my viv was take eggcrate and screw the wood into it. Then from there just silicone the eggcrate to the glass, gives a pretty decent sized surface area for a strong hold.
