Take a short drive south from London and you might stumble across one of the UK’s biggest Christmas trees. Wakehurst Place in Sussex is home to Kew Gardens ‘ only other outpost.
Like Kew, Glow Wild Sussex also boasts its very own woodland trail which exports visitors into a winter wonderland during the festive season. An awesome light show is projected onto the side of 16th century Wakehurst Place, while families can wander across its surrounding grounds packed full with Christmas delights.
On the light trail families will encounter fantastical animals, walk among giants and uncover hidden secrets of the natural world. But perhaps the coolest feature is the giant redwood tree which looms over the grounds.
Standing at 110ft, it’s the tallest living Christmas tree in the UK behind another redwood in Northumberland. In previous years it has been illuminated with 1,800 energy saving bulbs.
Full details of this year’s event have not yet been released, but Kew said it will include brand new bespoke installations by international artists, a revamped festive street food experience beneath the iconic Christmas tree, and a mesmerising soundscape journey through the grounds make Glow Wild Sussex’s most unique and unmissable Christmas light trail.
Glow Wild Sussex will open on selected evenings between Thursday, November 27 and Saturday, January 3 2026.
