The Sudbury Horticultural Society hosts a chance to grab smooth wild rose and smooth serviceberry, as well as many other hardy Sudbury-grown perennials and seedlings

Green thumbs across Sudbury can join the Sudbury Horticultural Society (SHS) for Gardener’s Day at the Sudbury Market, Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gardener’s Day is something enthusiastic green thumbs look forward to every spring, said a release from the SHS.

Hardy perennials donated by SHS members and supporters are available for purchase; as these plants are sourced from local gardens, they are proven hardy in this growing zone.

Rosa blanda (smooth wild rose) and amalanchier laievis (smooth serviceberry) bush seedlings will be available at no cost at the Sudbury VETAC booth.

Vale and Glencore will distribute tree seedlings. Greater Sudbury Environmental Services will supply bagged portions of screened, finished compost, promotional items/swag and info sheets regarding composting and recycling.

You’ll also find gently-used gardening books and magazines for purchase and gardening enthusiasts who are not already members of the SHS will have an opportunity to learn more about the organization and purchase memberships.

All funds raised through this sale are used to support the SHS’s programs and initiatives. Prices will vary per item and only cash will be accepted.

While there, you can visit the more than 75 local vendors at Sudbury Market, located at Elm Place in Downtown Sudbury. Shop for seasonal foods and treats, home decor, garden-related items and more.

Moonlight Buskers & Dani Star will be entertaining at the Sudbury Market and there will be gardening-related crafts at the Kids’ Corner.

Parking is free for three hours at Elm Place every Saturday with tickets validated at the information desk in the market. Parking is free on the weekend at any of the City of Greater Sudbury lots.
