The Chubby Chipmunk update added a whole new event to Grow a Garden that revolves around feeding a special chipmunk pet. As they eat fruit from your garden, they’ll get bigger and reward you with acorns around the map that you can collect. This is a fun way to get new pets, seeds, and more as you balance feeding your chipmunk and giving fruit to a new NPC. Find out all about how the Chubby Chipmunk event works in this guide.

What to Know About the Chubby Chipmunk Nutty Fever Event

The Chubby Chipmunk update was added to Grow a Garden on October 4, 2025. This event replaced the previous NPC from the Seed Stages update with a new character. Now you can speak with the Nuts character at the center of the island.

He’ll explain how Chubby Chipmunks are eating everyone’s plants, but you can make them eat even more by bringing them fruit. Before you start giving Nuts any fruit, you should grab the new chipmunk pet. You can get the free Chubby Chipmunk near the center of the island by the “Free Chipmunk” sign.

Make sure to then place them in your garden so they can get to work eating your crops. However, it’s important to mention that the Chubby Chipmunk will eat any multi-harvest crops that aren’t favorited. Therefore, if you don’t want them to eat a fruit that you’re stacking mutations on, make sure to use a Favorite Tool.

When you first place your Chubby Chipmunk pet, they’ll eat one fruit per 2 minutes, gaining .01 kg in weight. After eating a fruit, they’ll also spawn an Acorn somewhere random on the Grow a Garden island. This can be anywhere, so make sure to search for it before it disappears. You’ll know when it spawns since a message will appear saying, “An acorn has appeared on the map somewhere! Go find it!”.

The age of your Chubby Chipmunk can reduce how long it takes for it to eat fruit in your garden. As well as increase the amount of weight it gains when eating. We’ve noticed the timer dropping from eating every 1 minute and 58 seconds by one second and a tiny increase of .001 kg per fruit near Age 14.

How to Trigger a Nutty Fever Event

Aside from getting a variety of rewards via Acorns, you’ll also unlock rewards as your Chubby Chipmunk gets heavier. This is why it’s important to keep them as an active pet, so you can benefit most from the event. Since they only get .01 kg per fruit they eat, you’ll want to take advantage of the Nutty Fever event.

For every 1,500 points of fruit you give Nuts near the center of the island, you’ll trigger a Nutty Fever event. This lasts for five minutes and makes it so your Chubby Chipmunk will eat one fruit every 30 seconds. This speeds up their weight gain and helps you unlock new rewards quicker. If you’re not quite sure how to give fruit to Nuts, interact with him and then pick either “Submit Held Fruit” or “Submit All Fruit”.

The number of points toward your Nutty Fever progress seems to line up with previous events:

Common – 1 Point Uncommon – 2 Points Rare – 3 Points Legendary – 4 Points Mythical – 5 Points Divine – 6 Points Prismatic – 7 Points Transcendent – 8 Points For Silver Variants – +1 Points For Gold Variants – +2 Points For Rainbow Variants – +3 Points

If you don’t know how to see how heavy your Chubby Chipmunk is, you can do this near the center of the island. To the left of Nuts is a sign that says, “Unclaimed Rewards” on it. Interact with this sign to see how much they currently weigh.

While you can manually feed your Chubby Chipmunk similar to other pets, this won’t actually add to its weight. Unfortunately, you’ll need to rely on its’ pet ability.
