Energy Chew is a piece of gear that was added to Grow a Garden on October 4, 2025, as part of the Chubby Chipmunk update. And it looks like a cyan blue lightning bolt. Ready to find out more about this gear? Here’s a guide on what it does, how to get it, and how to use it.
How to Get Energy Chew in Grow a Garden
The only way to get Energy Chew is during the Chubby Chipmunk event. You’ll need to get a Chubby Chipmunk pet of your own from the center of the island. After claiming your pet, place it in your garden, and as it eats different crops over time, it’ll get heavier.
As your Chubby Chipmunk reaches certain weight milestones, you’ll get rewards. These are claimable near the center of the island by the Nuts NPC. You’ll need to interact with the sign that says, “Unclaimed Rewards” once you’ve hit the right weight for an item.
In the case of Energy Chews, you can only get three through this method. Unfortunately, there isn’t currently another method, which means these are quite limited. We could definitely see these become a craftable item or even perhaps a permanent item at the Gear Stall later on.

Energy Chew has a simple use that’s actually quite powerful. You can use it on any pet to immediately refresh its cooldown. This will make it use its’ ability regardless of how much time is left before it normally would. For example, a Junkbot that has a chance of applying the Oil Mutation once per 14 minutes will immediately try to if you use an Energy Chew on it.
Hopefully this becomes a more permanent item in Grow a Garden, since it’s a great one to have. However, it’s bound to be expensive or difficult to craft if that later becomes the case.
How to Use Energy Chew?
After getting an Energy Chew, equip it from your backpack or inventory. Then, you can click or tap on a pet you want to use it on. Or you can use an easier method of pulling out the pet window from the right side of your screen.
You’ll have to tap the two little arrows that look like this, “<<“. This will reveal a window where you can see more information about your pets and interact with them more easily. In order to use the Energy Chew on them this way, click or tap the green button that says, “Boost” to use it on that pet. Just make sure you want to use it on them since there isn’t a confirmation window before doing so.
