Leicestershire’s Botanic Garden Festival is set to welcome BBC Gardeners’ World star Nick Bailey this weekend. The free event is open to young and old and will also feature a Great British Bake Off star.
The festival, which is hosted by University of Leicester at the organisation’s Botanic Garden, in Oadby, will see a wide range of activities take place including arts and crafts themed workshops, face painting, outdoor games, a scavenger hunt, and a bouncy castle. BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Nick Bailey is hosting one of this year’s special ticketed events at the festival, with the gardener set to give a 45-minute talk.
Leicester’s Bake Off finalist Josh Smalley is also giving a 45-minute talk at this weekend’s festivities in the other ticketed event. Complimentary tea, coffee and cakes will be offered. Each talk is priced at £10 per person.
Free “change makes” sessions, which require tickets bookable online, will also take place aimed at children. There will be an opportunity to learn about the science behind pizza, how archaeologists use the human skeleton to learn about the past, and how DNA works, as well as science, mathematics, and literature based activities.
The Botanic Garden is located about three miles south-east of Leicester city centre, opposite Leicester Racecourse. There will be parking available on the day, however the use of public transport, walking or cycling, is encouraged as spaces are limited.
The Botanic Garden Festival takes place this Sunday (August 31) and runs from 11am till 4pm. More information, including how to book tickets, can be found online.
