Hello! Here is a beautiful tree in our yard. My husband's concerned that the branches are growing towards the driveways and houses and he wants to saw them off. I think the tree is absolutely beautiful and I'm afraid to ruin it. My main concerns are that the branches do look heavy. What would be the next steps? Maybe hiding his saw πŸ˜† and having a professional out to prune it? Or is it fine and we shouldn't worry about it? I drew a circle around the branch he's considering sawing off.

Tell that Ed Gein of a husband to leave the tree alone!

Please hire a professional. There is some pruning that can be done to achieve the desired result but it’s best done by a professional in a safe matter.

Absolutely gorgeous tree with beautiful color.

Hiring a professional arborist would benefit the tree greatly. From the sounds of it, it seems like your husband doesn’t know what he’s doing.

I hate how anyone thinks they can just cut a tree because it’s not rocket science. Then they end up damaging the tree to the point where the tree will never heal.

Pruning a tree properly is a bit of an art. You need to know how each individual species will behave when cut. How dense and strong the wood is plays a big factor in this. Also, the proper time of the year to cut too.
