Visitors to Kew Gardens are in for a (trick-or-)treat when a humongous Halloween light trail transforms the 300-acre grounds next month. Ghastly ghouls and wicked witches will take over the UNESCO World Heritage Site for 17 spook-tacular nights from Friday, October 17.
Much like the beloved Christmas edition, Halloween at Kew will see the venue’s glass houses and trees drenched in spectacular colour. The 1.5km walk is full of surprises, such as monsters lurking in Frankenstein’s laboratory and giant spiders hiding in haunted woods.
Just when you think you’re safe, a trick or two may just catch you out in the forgotten fairground. As dusk falls, the scare-factor gets turned up a notch, with moonlit sessions on offer for all the thrill seekers out there.

There is also the choice of daylight and twilight, meaning families can keep the creepiness at a kid-friendly level. Each time will have a slightly different feel, with the ghostly goings on gradually increasing as it gets darker.
Adam Thow, director of commercial & visitor operations at the Royal Botanic Gardens, said: “We were thrilled with the incredible response to the launch of Halloween at Kew last year, and we’re excited to introduce new spooky installations for 2025.
“It’s a fantastic way for families and friends to enjoy the Gardens in a new light and make magical Halloween memories together.”

There are rewards galore for escaping the trail unscathed, including hot toddies, hot chocolates and toasted marshmallows. Adult tickets cost £22 (peak) or £18.50 (off-peak), and children’s tickets are £13/£16 depending on the time.
There are deals available for groups of four, and children under four go free. A number of slots are already filling up or entirely sold out, particular those on, or close to, Friday, October 31 – book your tickets.
Christmas at Kew will transform the grounds in to a winter wonderland just a fortnight later. Now its in twelfth year, organisers say the trail will be as “magical as ever”.
