Bought this plant about a month ago. Have watered once or twice when I thought the soil was dry and left it on my south facing window that gets lots of sun. Does it look like I overwatered? Or underwatered? I see no pests.

Leaves are shriveling, crunchy and drooping but the base of the plant seems okay.

How are you determining if it needs water? How are you watering it? Can we see the underside of the leaves, please?

Needs watering desperately. I’m personally not a fan of clay pots either. I’d move it to something with good drainage.

It needs more watering overall because of the clay pot which is very airy and dry out soil really fast

Soil looks compacted so watering will not be very effective. Mixing perlite(or similar product) into soil will help prevent compacting.
Short term fix: stab the soil with a chopstick to aerate

You probably want to check on the roots – when you water, does it immediately fall through or does it pool at the top for a while? either way – this plant probably needs to be watered at least once a week, depending on how long it takes for the soil to dry out.

Tip: try not to repot plants when you first get them for at least a couple weeks. Let them adjust to the new space before you do too much. This way you can also see if it has any issues that needs to be addressed.
Only pot it into a larger pot if the roots have wrapped around and hold the soil when you pull it out. If the roots haven’t filled out that pot size, keep it in that size. Too much soil can suffocate the roots when it’s wet.

It’s on direct sun? It likes light, but not direct sun. Propagating them is very easy, I think maybe its better to move it to watter and wait, it’s not a big plant, so no need to have it in soil, it’s more difficult to take care of it that way 🙂

Put about half an inch of water in that tray and let it soak it up. Give it 3 hours and it will be fine

These plants typically don’t like terra cotta pots because they make the soil dry out too fast. He would probably have a better chance if you repot him into a plastic pot (you can put the plastic pot inside of the terra cotta if you like the look) and water him until the water is running out the bottom of the pot. He should make it but he is very thirsty.

Terra cotta pots let water evaporate quickly and this is a tropical plant! I don’t use terra cotta for anything except rosemary

Pay attention to how limp and soft the leaves are, when it’s got sufficient water, theyll be stiffer, less mailable. These plants tell you when they’re thirsty and you’re seeing that here.

Mine likes humidity, too dry of air makes it not happy.

I bought one of these about six weeks ago and was told that it’s a shade plant, so I shouldn’t let it have direct sunlight. I don’t know if that’s correct, but it’s doing well so far. I would give it a good watering and keep it from getting baked and see how it does. Also check for spider mites.

I would also change out the soil. I use a mix of miracle grow tropical soil and orchid bark mix so that it can have proper drainage. And I don’t have to seek out each individual ingredient for the soil mix

Repot to a different pot. Monstera adansonii doesn’t like drying out completely, and terracotta pots will absorb water. Repot in a plastic pot with drainage and water more regularly, when about half of the soil is dry.

  16. Looks like it could use some fresh soil and watering. I would take it out of the direct sun window until it recovers

  17. Water it until the water comes out of the bottom of the pot. Leave the water in the drain dish

That soil looks hella dry and the catch tray…could be Too much light probing water isn’t the answer

Thank you all so much!! I repotted in a plastic pot, mixed the tropical soil with perlite and trimmed back a few leaves, moved to a very bright but less sunny spot. Gave her a good drink of water. I’ll update you all when I see a difference.

Maybe some water and a good draining soil mix
