Vancouver, BC/Pacific.

Lawn was just resoded last summer. (It was full of grubs and dead at the time) Did Grub B Gon then and nematodes from local garden supply, per their timing.

This year I did Grub B Gon late July.

Lawn is decimated.. <tears>

What am I doing wrong? Where do I go from here?

Sorry to see I know I’ve been there, I now use bioadvance grub prevention (season long) in early spring timed with rain. Then another application early summer, no more grubs.

Bioadvanced 24 hour grub killer worked for me. Grubex also is preventative

Hb Nematodes. They worked great for me.

I use the bioadvance and it seems to work. My neighbor uses the grubex. It seems to keep the skunks away and lessen the damage but I still find them occasionally in the garden

Acelepryn as a preventative. Dylox as a curative.

Imidiclorpid. I had a lot of them. Now I can’t find them anymore. Going to spray for them earlier next year just to be safe though

I have a serious question. I find these guys all the time when I’m weeding/planting in my garden beds but they’ve never impacted my lawn. I’m talking about years now. Is seeing them a bad sign and I need to treat immediately, or should I just not worry about them unless they start eating my lawn?

I’m still working on growing my damaged areas back since last fall. Those little fuckers definitely do a number.

Some of that looks like bent grass also. Pulls up like carpet and shallow roots system.

I used spectrazide and watered and the next day grubs had crawled out of their holes and died.

Preventative Grubex treatment on June 1 (I live in PA).
First year I had insane grubs, so I double applied the Grubex on May 1 and June 1 (shhh don’t tell anyone). Been doing single applications since, no grubs in 5 years.
Grub “killer” works pretty poorly from my experience. All about the preventative stuff in late spring.

Nope. You’re going to have to join ’em. Those are the rules.

Top choice granular insect control the best I think

Large fat skunk visits my yard and digs them out at night…..
Lol…. I know where they all are by the divots in the lawn.

I skipped the b in beat and actually read this as does anyone actually eat them and man, did I rush to the comments lol just to realize it was me lol

  16. Apply Imidacloprid 2F in May AND July , that’s how I beat them. Label says don’t apply more than once a year. I did twice and bye bye grubs

The only thing I’ve used (and I’ve tried a wide array of shit) that has made a good dent is beneficial nematodes.

  18. I’m surprised nobody here has suggested clover. Whenever you reseed or resod, you’re going to want to have clover in your grass. It helps keep the grubs away and also helps fix nitrogen essentially giving your lawn free fertilizer. Also make sure you’re mowing high enough. At least 3 inches.

One of the first few hits about grubs on google (I live in the lower mainland too) was Burnaby’s webpage about European chafer: https://www.burnaby.ca/our-city/programs-and-policies/environment/chafer-beetles-and-nematodes
