Edwardstow Court in Stow-on-the-Wold was named Best Overall Garden – Private Collection in The Orders of St John Care Trust’s (OSJCT) annual Trust in Bloom competition, recognising the efforts of residents, staff, volunteers, and community supporters.

Matthew Peach, home manager, said: “This award is a pat on the back for all the volunteers and residents who’ve put in the time and effort.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped develop our gardens.”

The care home competed against 51 other OSJCT homes and received £125 in gardening vouchers from sponsor Maintel.

This year’s gardens include raised vegetable beds designed for wheelchair users, a kitchen garden supplying fresh ingredients for the home, and themed areas such as a herb-filled miniature wheelbarrow garden.

Caroline Mkai, activities and wellbeing co-ordinator, said: “It’s wonderful to see volunteers and family members supporting our gardening efforts.

“With so many different areas, residents enjoy walking around to see what’s growing and changing.

“The colours take many of them back to their own gardens.”

Residents and visitors can explore vibrant flowerbeds, hanging baskets, and creative features like “Sir Gallapot,” as well as a tranquil woodland walk.

The gardens are maintained with the help of dedicated volunteers, including Kath Finch, who has supported the home for more than six years, and Jill, who helped develop the kitchen garden and regularly waters plants during the summer.

Chris Weeden, account director at Maintel, said: “I was very impressed by the ingenuity, effort, and enthusiasm at Edwardstow Court.

“It’s clear how much care goes into these gardens.”

Edwardstow Court regularly hosts gardening events and community activities, and its woodland walk is open to the wider community.

Updates and event information are available on the home’s Facebook page.
