There is an unusual crisp in the air here in Georgia, Zone 8b, that kind of feels like fall. And that had me running for the garden center to update my annual bed for a fall refresh. The problem is I know that the heat and humidity will be making another appearance so I needed to choose my plants wisely.
Hey y’all. I wanted to hop on here and show y’all the update of my annual bed that I have in my front yard. I usually don’t do a fall annual bed. I just kind of once my spring and summer annuals are done, I pull them up and just wait again till next year. But last year I started doing a fall annual bed because we had a special family event here at our house and I really liked the just the freshness of it because you get kind of tired of seeing the same old same old and so it was really nice to to have something different. I’ve never grown any of these annuals before. I was really excited to see how they turned out. This is the hottest afternoon sun and we have it for hours in the evening. Let me know if you’ve grown these and if you’ve had any luck with them. The back is caladiums. You can see they have a little bit of stress already, but they’re putting on a lot of new growth in their new home. I liked the little it’s ever so slight pink dot in the middle. And I thought that that did really well with picking up the color in these pentas that we have here. I don’t know the variety of these caladiums. They were not marked and they were black pot at our local nursery. And then like I said, these are just pentas. There’s not a variety name that I know of them. I got at a big box store. And then the same thing in the front here is just a blue of ovulus. I got them off the clearance rack. And so none of these are really fall plants per se, but we have such warm uh falls and the temperatures really swing. And so I can’t get cool tolerant plants like a pansy. So I decided to try going with more summer like annuals and and put in here and just to freshen up. In the back though, I want to update y’all on my suncredible yellow sunflowers from Proven Winners. So we put in three here. And I mean they have put on flowers continuously. So for that I would recommend them. But the problem with them is this. And it’s not a bad problem. It’s just you’ve got to have time for it. So of course their blooms don’t last very long and you’ve got to constantly dead head them. And then the other thing is they attract flies. And so being here at our front entrance, uh flies aren’t ideal. I’ve really done little other than dead head. I haven’t sprayed them with anything. I’ve just kind of let them be. And if you need something low fuss like that, I would highly recommend. If you’ll go over to my channel, you can check out a container that I uh just switched out as well in which I had those same sunflowers and it didn’t do quite as well. I don’t know if it was because of the container or the amount of sun it was getting, but I hope you like this content. And if you do, please give me a like or subscribe. Y’all have a great day and we’ll see you soon.
