A community garden project based in Maryhill has been shortlisted for the Nature of Scotland Awards.

The Bee Happy Garden, developed by The Women’s Centre Glasgow in partnership with the RSPB’s Giving Nature a Home programme, is a finalist in the health and wellbeing category.

The awards, organised by RSPB Scotland, celebrate projects that make a positive impact on nature and the environment across the country.

Supported by funds from the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Bee Happy Garden transforms underused outdoor space into a welcoming area for both people and wildlife.

Over the past year, participants have installed bat and bird boxes, planted fruit trees and wildflowers, planted herbs and vegetables, set up bird feeders, and taken part in nature discovery walks and a solstice well-being afternoon.

Anne McCall, director of RSPB Scotland, said: “Every year, the Nature of Scotland Awards celebrate people and projects going that extra mile to make a difference for nature in their local communities.

“We can’t tackle the nature and climate crisis alone, and it is heartening to hear the inspiring stories of people coming together to protect species and improve spaces for nature.”
