A McKinleyville Botanical Garden workday is slated for Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. in Hiller Park. Rain cancels the event. Volunteers are needed to do some fall planting and can also take home cuttings or seeds. This garden features many native species. Volunteering helps create habitat for bees, birds, butterflies and other little creatures, while adding beauty to the environs. Bring a bucket and garden tool, if you can. To get to the garden, go west on Hiller Road to the parking lot for Hammond Trail, the soccer fields and the dog park. The garden is adjacent to the playground. Pictured is coyote mint, Monardella villosa, found at the garden.
