This plant means a lot to me, and I’m not sure what happened. I went to see why it had a slightly yellow leaf and as I moved it the whole thing just broke off. Any idea what caused this?

I water it when it seems to be getting a bit dry and it has a drainer too. It’s indirectly getting sunlight too. I’ve had it for about a year and a half or so.

Often soft stems in sansevieria is a sign of root rot. I see you said you water it when it gets “a bit dry”, these plants should be allowed to get completely dry, and ideally shouldn’t be potted in soils that retain a lot of water

Peel off the yellow leave and set that back in soil. It may reroot and be fine.

The soil may have stayed too wet and the roots on that plant rotted and let go.

Good news is you have two babies that look healthy. You may want to wait until the leaves just start to wrinkle between waterings. They can go a month between waterings.

My guess is crown rot. As the other commenter said, peel off 3–4 leaves from the bottom, cut some of the base until it’s not mushy, wash the base with room temperature water and let it dry and callus for a day or two. Then grab a new 3–4″ (8–10 cm) pot and plant it deep enough so the peeled area stays at the center, both vertically and horizontally. During the rooting period, which is about 2–3 months, avoid direct sunlight and do not neglect it until it has roots and is ready.

Honestly every snake plant ive owned thrived off neglect. The one I have now got watered over a month ago and im still gonna give it another week before watering again

You can just take off the dying leaves and out the rest of the plant back in soil, it might reroot itself

With the next one let all the soil dry out completely, wait a couple of weeks and then water. Water once a month or even less often
