A sudden sighting of seasonal shimmer, the sort of glow that ethereally emits around the holidays, can instantly lift our mood.

That can happen when passing a decorated store window or a neighbor’s beautifully lit yard or any festively attired spot around town.

But finding that special seasonal shimmer in one of the region’s loveliest gardens? That’s something magical, especially when you get to roam the garden by moonlight.

Garden lovers and moonlight mavens, be cheered: Astra Lumina, a mysterious and cosmic holiday experience, will land at South Coast Botanic Garden Nov. 6.

As the name so fetchingly suggests, there is a space-inspired theme to the dazzling displays, illuminated attractions that will be placed along “… a celestial pathway of lustrous light.”

The areas you’ll roam include names like Stellar Visions and Falling Stars. Projection and sound create an otherworldly atmosphere, working in twinkly tandem with the lighted sculptures.

No jetpack is needed nor spacecraft, but you will require a ticket, and those go on sale Oct. 8.

And unlike roaming the universe, which would take a considerable amount of time, the galactic garden adventure is about an hour in length.

Call it well-themed holiday experiential lighting that offers a creative connection to the cosmos, all set within a leaf-filled landscape.

There’s no manifest to board this sylvan saucer to the stars, but there is a waitlist; find it here.
