Hi there and welcome to our garden with Tom. So I’m doing some autumn lawn care. The first job is to scarify the lawn. I’m using the scarification rake to rake up from all directions the thatch. The thatch is the dead grass that accumulates as a layer underneath the existing grass and suffocates it. So every year, perhaps even in spring and autumn, twice a year, we should scarify the lawn to keep the lawn fresh. Once I’ve done that, I’m using my other rake just to rake up the thatch. And then once I’ve done that, I’m moving on to the second job, which is aerration. Because the lawn and the ground can become compacted over spring and summertime. And with the dry weather, it just gets compacted and the health of the lawn can suffer because we want to get air to the roots. So by opening it up with a spiker or an irration tool, we can then do that. We’re going to get air to the roots of the existing growing grass. Once I’ve done that, I’m taking my mini handheld spreader and overseeding the lawn as I want to put new seed down to germinate. Then once I’ve sewn the seed, I’m putting some lawn dressing over it to quilt it, which snuggles the seed between the ground and the quilt, and we’ll have germination over the coming weeks and make our lawn look lush for autumn time and beyond.
