There is a new “Garden of Hope” for cancer patients at the Carbonear General Hospital.

The garden was made possible with a $40,000 donation from “Power of Life,” Newfoundland Power’s corporate partnership with the Cancer Care Foundation.

Located on the 3rd floor just off the Ambulatory Care Unit where chemotherapy is delivered, The Garden of Hope provides a space for patients and their families to take a break during a long treatment day or spend time in between appointments.

Other such facilities are funded through Power of Life can be found across the province in cancer centres in St. John’s, Gran Falls-Windsor and the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville.

Emily Geary, the executive director of the Cancer Care Foundation, says the facilities provide many positive benefits.

Gary Murray, president and CEO of Newfoundland Power, says supporting cancer patients has been the cornerstone of Power of Life.
