So, you’re trying to grow food in a limited space and you came across the idea of a bucket garden. I’m going to show you this whole setup and how you can do a few things differently to help you guys out. Now, I actually did a video that showed you the exact measurements on how I actually set this up, but if you’re interested in that, I’ll have it down in the link below. I can tell you that a lot of you had questions on, hey, why did I actually build two levels? Why didn’t I just make one level? Um, and really, it’s because I don’t want to have to bend over anymore. I I really I’m past the age. I’m 37 years old and I don’t really feel like bending over unless they got to. I know it sounds crazy. Um but there’s a lot of people that don’t want to have to bend over. That’s why people using raised garden beds and this is kind of the same concept. This is so you can get things off the ground where you don’t have to really bend over when you go to harvest. So this is a great option if you really don’t want to bend over a whole lot. So, two levels really helps me with that whole situation. These are pepper plants inside of these buckets here. And some of you were actually asking how many pepper plants can you put in a 5gallon bucket. And the real answer is you can put two in there. However, it’s total preference. I just think they need more airflow. You may think differently. You can do whatever you want, but you can put two in here. I put one in each. So, I’ve got a total of eight green bell pepper plants here. Uh, so that’s what I went with. You can grow anything in these things. You can grow more than bell peppers. You can grow, you know, jalapeno pepper plants. You can actually grow your fruit bearing plants in these things, too. Don’t just think you can only grow peppers because you can pretty much do anything you want. Now, if you have a good eye, you will see that these buckets don’t look like the ones down below. These actually have some wood on the front of them, and you see some spacing. And there’s actually two buckets here. And if you haven’t seen the video on that, well, that is my selfwatering system here. And the whole reason why I’m showing you all this stuff is so I can tell you the progression or show you the progression of these being set up. These were set up 30 days ago. And I’ve only watered them twice. And we’ve only had rain once, maybe twice since then as well. So, we’re actually going to check out these buckets and see how much water is in these things after a whole month together. We’re going to see if it’s completely bone dry. Uh we’re both going to be shocked at the same time cuz what you see and I see will be 100% authentic and see if I need to add water to these things. But I haven’t touched these things. That’s the whole purpose of these things is so you can truly neglect them or go on and live life and not really have to worry about these things and come back to them and hopefully harvest them if they haven’t had too much heat and they have not lacked any water. All right, so let’s see what is inside of here. If there’s anything left and you can see there’s still water dripping off of those ropes there. Those ropes are cotton ropes. They’re not uh that wiry rope, I think it’s called nylon. You want cotton ropes in there. And you can see there’s stuff dripping out of them. So, let’s check out what’s in there now at the bottom in that blue bucket here. If you look, you can see there is stuff still in there. And there’s actually about it went all the way up in the ring right there. So, I’d say it’s about 3 in of water in there still after a month from I guess from the the previous rain we had. Um, still holding water just fine. So, yeah, we still got plenty of water. And I’ll check this other one here too. But before I actually put this back, I’m going to actually check this rope right here and make sure that this spot is wet still. It is pulling water up. So you can you can feel it and see the water. It is the rope is wet all the way up to here. So yeah, there’s water getting all the way up here. So that is good to know if you want to try this method. So that water is being pulled up with that rope into this bucket here as your plant needs it. And I still feel like personally I may want to water it every now and then, but I did this to show everybody truly what will happen. I haven’t really watered it and there’s still water down there. Now you can tell this top is pretty dry here. But when I scrape it down a little bit about a/ inch lower, it is moist. So I was concerned about that. And I’m actually going to probably take this water bucket down here below and dump it on top of there again and then fill it back up after this video. That’s probably what I’m going to end up doing. I’m going to do the same thing on all of them because they all look dry on the top. I’m a little OCD. I try to be a little cautious to make sure I’m actually not wasting my time or money when it comes to growing this stuff. So, I want to make sure they stay water from here on out. Main thing I would tell you about this whole setup here is I would definitely make sure if you did this and you were going to go ahead and spend the money and get all this stuff set up, I would make sure you had an actual watering system set in place or a drip irrigation system or something like that just to be on the safe side. The last thing you want to do is spend the money and something go wrong, you not get anything out of it. Dirt’s expensive these days. You all know I use black cow, Pete moss, and pine bark mulch in pretty much all of my soil mixture when it comes to growing stuff. So, if you don’t want things to fail, keep them watered. You can set them up with this selfwatering system here. I have another one that I’ve made a video on, too. I’ll have it tagged down below to show you one with actual milk jugs. And you can also use little liter bottles and that kind of thing to have below your plant to let the water go back into the soil as it needs it. Because that is the biggest problem I think you’ll run into if you try growing things in containers, period. So definitely have something lined up to where you can keep things watered so you can go back and enjoy the food that you

  1. I enjoy your channel so much. But man..I sure wish you lived b6 me! 😂. I’d like you to make me those! I’ll shoe this to my BIL, he could do this. Those look great, and fun to have. You have great ideas and suggestions. ♥️

  2. Such a great idea with the buckets! And I know exactly what you mean as I’m getting older I’m trying to garden smarter and not harder when it comes to bending!!😅

  3. I'm so confused about self-wicking coupled with air pruning the roots.

In regards to your mineral tubs with milk jugs set-up. I understand the self-wicking aspect but where does the air-pruning component of the roots come in? There's no space between the jugs and the soil.
    Thanks!!

  4. Hi there, I am a new subscriber to your channel.
Do you have instructions fot the tower( looks like wooden stair case for the planters) of long beds on the right side of your video?
