Hey y’all and good morning. Well, the temperature today is absolutely beautiful. Our high today here in coastal North Carolina is 77. So, I am definitely in the fall mood. Now, this past weekend, we were in South Carolina and Hardy was doing a retirement ceremony for a fellow Navy officer. And afterwards I asked to go to a garden center. But the temperatures that day got almost into the ‘9s and I was literally sweating looking at pansies. And so I just was not in the mood. But then the next day the temperature lowered and it started to rain and so me and Savannah went out to Lowe’s and we picked up some beautiful flowers. I just have to kind of be in that mood for fall and so it was definitely in the mood. Saturday wasn’t, but Sunday was. So I picked up some really pretty flowers. So, I’m going to get ready to do some fall planters. So, this will be my first fall planters of 2025. And so, I’m super excited. So, I’ll show you guys what we’re going to be doing and we’ll kind of go through that little process. And we’re going to be trying to do it on a budget, which is super good as well. All right, guys. So, let’s go ahead and get started. I don’t know if you guys are like me, but I have old pots that are starting to look super tired. So, these are just little plastic ones that I got from Lowe’s. Oh, I think back in probably 2000, maybe in New Jersey when we lived there. They are a little worse for wear. But we’re going to spray paint them. I needed to drill some more holes in the bottom because these two little holes right here, I think there’s a little one right there. They are just not enough drainage. So, I want to drill a couple more holes and get these painted up and then we’re going to get them planted for our fall containers. Okay. Okay. So, let’s go ahead and put a couple more holes in the bottom of this banter. Okay. So, that should be good. It has three holes in it now. Okay. So, I got my holes done, but these are really dirty on the outside. And I don’t have a towel out here with me, but I have some of this paper. So, I’m just going to kind of wipe off all of this sand to get them kind of cleaned off. that that way the paint will adhere to it really nicely. Okay, so I went ahead and popped off the bases and so this makes it a lot easier to clean and a lot easier to paint. And then when I get ready to do the underside, I’ll just flip them back up and put them back on the base. So that should be pretty simple. They are looking so beautiful, guys. Oh my goodness. It is absolutely amazing what a little spray paint can do. And I love this um this metallic oil rubbed bronze. It is so pretty. Look at that shine on them. I just love that. I’ve got a little spray paint left. So, this was a a whole can of this one. And it’s so neat how sometimes it’ll spray out more metallic than others, which I kind of like that look on it. So, I’m going to let these dry and then we’ll get started. So, I was checking out my dirt and I don’t have quite enough to fill up these pots. So, would you guys like to go on a little field trip with me and we’ll go to my local little garden center and go and get some potting soil? All right, so let’s go. So, that seems like my luck. Every time I try to start a project, then I don’t have all the pieces that I need to get it finished. So, then I have to go get something. I’m sure you guys are the same way. Okay, guys. So, I’ll see you at the garden center. Okay, so we’re are here and they’ve got all their potty mixes out here. Love their little sign. So pretty. So this is their germinating mix. This is what I use for seed starting over here. And then they also have the black cow and a lot of the daddy pets, but they look like they’re out of the container mix of the Daddy Pete. So I’ll have to see if she has something else because usually it’s right in here. Okay. So, they do have some of the Fox Farm potting soil. And this is the one I have at home right now. So, I may just get another bag of that to go with it. Let’s go take a peek and see what they have inside. Okay, so they got in all these beautiful mums. And then they’ve got some pansies. Look how pretty they are. So, I might grab a couple of those. I like this mix. I’m actually growing this mix inside. Lots and lots of moms. Hey, kitty. Kitty. Hi. You taking a nap in the pot and so kitty? Hi there, kitty. Hi. Are you a nice kitty? Are you a nice kitty? Yes, you are a nice kitty. Friendly to each other. Good kitties. Yes. Be good kitties. Be good kitties. Oh my goodness, guys. So, they had three kitty cats this time. Normally I only see the orange and white one, but they had some babies over there and the solid orange one kept following me around and I love orange kitty cats. I had an orange cat named Johnny growing up and I loved him. He was a big old fat orange cat. Oh, he was so cute. But now my allergies are bothering me. So, um I love cats, but cats do my body does not love cats and it makes my nose run. And I probably need to wash my hands because I did touch them. But we got um a pack of pansies and we got some dill for Mary Face little caterpillar. And then we got our potting soil. So now we’re going to get us a little bit lunch and then we’re going to head back to the house. Okay, so we are back and I stopped by Walmart on the way home and I got this Scots turf builder. They had everything on sale. So, this bag, let’s see, covers 5,000 square feet, 17.24 pounds was um $14.50 for this. So, I got two bags of that. And then they had all of these organic ones like alalfa meal and kelp meal and um the monorganite. Um, and a lot of people said this was good to help keep uh the deer away. It has a really bad smell. And then some of the um slug and snail killer. So, this one was like450 where it’s normally like eight something. So, I use a lot of that. And then I picked up these two. Oh my goodness, look how pretty they are. These are the um perennial daisy the the mont daisies. and I just thought they were so pretty. I just could not resist. So, definitely go and check out your local Walmart because they are putting all of that stuff on sale right now because they are trying to make room for all of the Christmas stuff. And my lady at my garden center said they were going to be getting in 10 pallet loads full of plants tomorrow. So, you know, I’m going to be going to Walmart tomorrow. Everything is good and dry on these pots now. Now I’ve got to kind of line back up my holes. [Music] Okay. So, let me show you all the beautiful flowers that we’re going to be using. for our fall containers. Now, I decided to go with the aster because they have a longer bloom time than the mums. And I also have mums that I overwintered from last year. So, I’m going to use those. So, I’ll still have mums, but I can be able to take these and pop these out in the landscape and they’ll last a little bit longer. So, these were $7.98. I did see some of these at Walmart that were 7.84 and they were taller, but that’s okay. Okay, so Walmart does have these same kind as well. And then over here is the dusty miller. And it looks like there’s two in each pot for $1.98. So sometimes these will overwinter for us. And this is the let’s see, spin top red blanket flower, Glardia. So I thought this one was a really pretty fall color. This is also a perennial, so we’ll be able to put this out in our landscape. And then over here, this is the Prairie Winds Desert Plains. And that’s what it looks like. I thought this one was really pretty. Has really pretty seed heads on them. So, this was our most priciest one. This one was $16.98. And then over here, the Glardia was 13.48. So, all in all, everything we’ll be able to use back in the garden again after our fall containers. So, they’re get like multi-use. So, I looked for perennials. Now, I do have a couple pansies that I bought from SNH, but those were six for $4.99, so they were super inexpensive. And with us being here in zone 8b, our pansies will go all through the winter into the early spring. So, really, really good deal. The most expensive part of this project is the potting soil. So, this is the Happy Frog, and it is 2 cubic feet, and it was, I think, $23.99 if I believe that’s what it was. So, I already had half of a bag and so that was the other bag. So, hopefully we’ll have a little bit left over. Now, what I’m thinking about doing is because I want to use these up front, I think I’m going to assemble these here in my little wagon. So, that way I can just take them over there and it won’t be so much heavy lifting that we have to do. I like how lofty this happy frog is. So, it’s got a lot of perlite in it, which is really good for containers. Think I’m going to use my grass as the back and then use this little over there and then the aster here. Dusty Miller. And then I need to go get our pansy. I picked out a white pansy. I figured it could kind of take us over into Christmas and the new year. So, even if these don’t have any blooms on them, they’ll still be a nice pretty green. We’ll have a nice pretty white here. Maybe I can do my dusty miller right there. I think that’s going to look really good. So, when I’m thinking about containers, I know a lot of people will do the the thriller, the spillers, and the fillers. But with this one, I’m thinking about I want to do texture and it has this movement and then pattern, which I think the pattern will be really good with the dusty miller and the white pansies. And then, um, more of color. And so we got the different colors, but they go really well with each other. So even though that one, this is more of like I don’t know, it just really goes well with that purple. So those go good together. And then I think about like something that’s bright and kind of pops, which we get that from the white right here. So texture, pattern, color, and the brightness. That’s what it’s look like. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Okay. So, now that we’re finished with this one, I’m going to go ahead and do this one exactly the same. And then we’ll take it up front and put it in place. [Music] Okay, so this is where I want to place my pots. So, I’ve got to move my arbor vites that are right here. And we’re going to put the pots in place. So, we got to find a temporary place to put these because I want to use these at Christmas time to put little lights on. Okay, so this is going to be their temporary home until we are going to use them for Christmas. And we don’t use our garage for parking our cars, so they won’t be in the way of anything. Hopefully they’ll be good right here. And look at how beautiful they are. It’s been such a nice day cuz everything is overcast. So you can really see the details in this planter. Look at the beautiful little seed heads here. And then the purple aers. I love this color along with that galardia. I think I’m saying that right. And then our dusty miller. And then our little pansies. I love pansies. I think they have little faces. Cute little faces. And I did get them all watered in. That’s why they’re kind of looking a little floppy right now. And then we have the other one over here. Oh my goodness. It’s so pretty. This makes me want to put like a grass like right here against that post. I think that would be really pretty. And we may because these are perennials. And we can pop these in the ground after we’re finished with them over here. Look how pretty that is. And then for, you know, we could change this out for the holidays and maybe put like some little ornaments in here, maybe um lights and a bow or something like that. But we’ll also be using our little Christmas trees as well. So, lots of different ideas. And I’m so glad I spray painted these pots because they are looking so pretty. I love that. just a little spray paint and it literally just took me just a few minutes to get that done. So, sometimes we’ve just put off things because we think, “Oh, it’s going to take me so long.” But in reality, it was just a few minutes to get that done. All right, guys. So, we’re all finished and I think they look absolutely beautiful. I hope this gives you some inspiration. If you have some old containers, get out that spray paint because it will make a world of difference on how they look. And then also think about for your fall planting, think about those perennials because you can put these in your garden for next year. So it gets like a double usage so you get more bang for your money. Hope you guys have a great day and I hope you have a chance to get your gardens today. Thanks for gardening with me. Bye friends.
