I recently planted a semi-dwarf kaffir lime tree in a large pot, and I’ve just noticed that a second stem has started growing with different-shaped leaves and noticeably different thorns (photos attached).

I understand that citrus are often grafted, so I’m wondering if this new shoot might be from the rootstock rather than the grafted kaffir lime?

Should I remove it now, or is it okay to leave it to grow alongside the main stem? Any tips on how to manage this would be much appreciated!

Triple leaves = Rootstock, cut it off, it’ll just take energy from the plant you actually want, the Kaffir Lime.

Chop it off! Don’t want those nasty thorns around either
