Patti Finn comes from Sag Harbor and likes the “nice atmosphere.” She also calls jazz “quiet music.” Joe Kolarik is from Hampton Bays and calls it “cool and in a perfect surrounding. I like it.” They’re talking about the Wednesday Night Jazz Series on the back patio of Canoe Place Inn and Cottages that runs through October 29. And perhaps beyond.

On this particular Wednesday night, the Danny Jonokuchi Trio is entertaining the hip Ryder Cup Week crowd. He says the venue, which he has played before, is rich in musical history, making it even cooler. “It’s one of the oldest hotels in America that’s always been committed to the arts and music, and we want to continue that lineage out here.”

Part of that lineage means bringing world-renowned names out each Wednesday. Jonokuchi brought Brandi Disterheft from North Vancouver, Canada, and Hyuna Park from Seoul, Korea. “They’re award-winning musicians and some of my favorites to work with,” he added. “Brandi is back with her trio on October 22,” he said proudly.

The outdoor series will take place rain or shine. The patio area has a giant canopy that can open and close. And the musicians can perform out in the garden area or on the patio, depending on Mother Nature. The jazz vibe continues a long-standing musical tradition at Canoe Place that, over the years, has seen everyone from Count Basie to Bon Jovi.

General Manager Matthew Kristan likes the turnout and said it’s easy for music fans. “No reservations. Just great music, golden hour vibes, and a perfect Hamptons evening.” He also said if the series is successful, it could move indoors for the winter months. So the beat could go on.
