Selena Gomez’s wedding bouquet had a symbolic meaning.

When the singer and actress, 33, wed music producer Benny Blanco in California on Saturday, Sept. 27, she carried a petite bouquet of lily of the valley. Though small, the white bell-shaped blooms have a big meaning behind them.

Shortly after Gomez shared photos from her dreamy wedding on Instagram, confirming she and Blanco, 37, tied the knot, with her caption reading, “🤍 9.27.25 🤍,” fans noticed a romantic detail about the Only Murders in the Building star’s choice of flower.

In the photos, fans quickly spotted that Gomez’s wedding bouquet consisted of lily of the valley. One fan pointed this out in a now-viral post on X on Sunday, Sept. 28, alongside a graphic claiming lily of the valley means “return of happiness,” with it stating, “If your heart has been restored by your suitor, let them know with a bunch of these elusive spring flowers.”

The user wrote, “Sobbing at the fact that the flowers in Selena Gomez’s wedding bouquet symbolized the return of her happiness.”

Internationally acclaimed event planner, designer and florist Tyler Speier tells PEOPLE that lily of the valley “represents love, purity and renewal.”

“They are so delicate and a classic bridal bouquet choice,” says Speier, who is the owner and creative director of Tyler Speier Events.

“They are a timeless choice for bridal bouquets, and have been popular over many decades,” he notes. “Kate Middleton carried the flower, Grace Kelly, and now modern-day Hollywood stars are embracing the look too.”

He adds that a bride’s bouquet decision is “an important stylistic fashion choice.”

“The flowers in the bouquet are central for designing the rest of the wedding florals,” he explains. “They need to complement — and not overpower — the bridal gown. They also need to be practical, in my opinion, as bouquets can get heavy, and if a bride wants to carry her blooms through all the photos and the ceremony, we want the blooms to be comfortable to hold. In general, I lean towards more petite bouquets so the bridal fashion can shine.”

Lily of the valley is also the birth flower for May.

For her big day, Gomez and Blanco walked down the aisle, escorted by her grandfather, wearing a custom Ralph Lauren wedding gown featuring a floral halter-neck and structured bodice as she said “I do” to Blanco, who sported a look by the same designer.

A source told PEOPLE that the couple curated the perfect night for themselves and their guests to celebrate the marriage, sharing, “There was so much love in the room.”

“At the reception, everyone was letting loose and celebrating them well into the night. The vibe was so much fun,” the insider said.
