I planted a few southern live oaks a few years ago, watered them daily, protected them from physical damage, etc. My boyfriend has been “helping” with the lawn and I recently noticed all 3 of the tree trunks have severe damage from a weed whacker. I made sure he knew to leave the trees alone and I would hand pick the grass / weed surrounding.
All that aside, what should I do? Pile mulch around the injuries and hope for the best? I’m in Orlando, FL. Thank you!

Honestly it looks like there’s enough rot setting into the wood beneath the bark that they’re probably goners 🙁
