Today I saw an Oxalis (either O.
corniculata or O. stricta I think) flower with six petals instead of the usual five I’ve seen. The first two photos are of the strange flower, and the other is of a regular one. What causes flowers to have more petals than usual? Is it a genetic mutation (and if so could I use seeds from when the flower develops into a seed pod, and plant them to get more plants with flowers that have six petals?) or is it just something that happens? Thanks for your help.
