Former Gardeners’ World presenter Alan Titchmarsh has revealed he’s had to make a major family decision in recent months.
For years, Alan’s Hampshire-based garden has served as the setting for some of his most beloved television programmes, and more recently YouTube tutorials, but that’s all about to change as he prepares to relocate closer to his two daughters and their families.
In a recent piece penned for Countryfile magazine, the horticultural expert discussed his planned departure from Hampshire after more than four decades: “Soon, we will be moving from the Hampshire Downland, where we have made two homes and gardens over the past four decades, to be closer to our daughters just across the border in Surrey.”
While he acknowledges it will be difficult to bid farewell to the property, he believes the “time is right”: “Leaving the garden I have created and tended for 23 years will be a fearsome wrench, but the time is right and the pines are beckoning. We are only ever custodians of our patches of earth, and I am happy to hand over my four acres for others to enjoy and to cultivate.”

As he pondered his affection for his Hampshire residence, it has recently been listed for an impressive £3.95 million, with the estate featuring several striking elements, including a 42ft entertainment barn and theatre area, a four-acre garden, plus a summer house.
Highlighting some of its most appealing characteristics, the property agents, Savills, explained: “A wide York stone terrace wraps around the property with steps down to more formal gardens featuring a wealth of mature trees, well-stocked borders, striking topiary, and spectacular water features and fountains.”
They continued: “Neatly manicured lawns are punctuated by tree-lined paths, and a summer house provides useful shade.”

Beyond his personal affairs, Alan has established himself as one of the most respected figures in horticulture, having appeared on programmes such as Ground Force during the late 90s, while also hosting Gardeners’ World from 1996 through to 2002, when Monty Don took over his role.
In recent years, he has fronted his own programmes, with The Alan Titchmarsh Show broadcasting from 2007 to 2014, before his Love Your Weekend programme launched in 2020.
