Today I will show you how to turn garden supplies into sparkling gemstones. Pour 100 ml of distilled water into a beaker. Then carefully add 60 g of crude copper sulfate which is often sold as fungi control in garden supplies. Heat the mixture until it’s near boiling point. Due to the impurities, it is not going to form a clear solution. The next step is very important. It determines the quality of our product. With extreme care, add 3 ml of 90% sulfuric acid, which can be found as drain cleaner, into the beaker. The mixture should turn into a clear solution with a deep blue color. A slight excess of sulfuric acid was added to suppress the hydraysis of copper ions. [Music] While the mixture is still hot, carefully filter the mixture through two layers of coffee filter. We should have a beautiful solution with a lovely deep blue color. Place the beaker into an ice bath. Blue crystals should slowly grow at the bottom of the beaker in the next several hours. After 6 hours, we can carefully decant the top layer, revealing the crystals below. Here is a better view of the gorgeous sparkling blue crystals we just made. If you want to dry the crystals and save them, carefully break the large chunks and transfer them onto an observation dish with filter papers on top. The filter paper will slowly absorb the remaining liquid on its surface. After air drying for a few hours, you can carefully transfer the crystals into a storage container. [Music] This is how you turn garden supplies into gorgeous sparkling blue crystals. Thank you for watching.
