Hi all! I’ve had four begonias in an indoor greenhouse for a year or less, and would love any tips to keep them happy!
The biggest is a cane begonia that had four torn up, solid green leaves when I bought it one year ago. It’s grown like 6x in size and much more shimmery! I’ve also potted up once. However, lately it’s been losing lower leaves, probably due to a combination of over and under watering (crisping and yellowing), so she’s become my trickiest. I recently broke the growth tip of the taller stem off in hopes it will grow bushier.
Two identical begonia rexes I got in 2inch pots some months ago, have potted up twice due to growth. They’ve been flowering throughout the summer as well. Most of the leaves are very very red. One has a very tall, leaning stem I’m a bit wary of, while the other is much fuller.
Lastly, a little polka dot (?) cane begonia that shed ALL its leaves when it first came home, but it’s grown a lot and now it seems super happy! It sits under the large one so it gets minimal to no direct light.
I recently removed the top shelf of my greenhouse and updated their lighting because the big one got too tall. They get filtered natural light from SW windows, and there are bar lights and a lamp pointing in through the greenhouse on the top left. I lightly fertilize every 1-3 weeks (basically when I remember…). I tend to wait for signs they need water or until the pot is very light. Humidity is usually between 40-50%.
