Hey everyone! Thanks for your patience as I continue to figure out the cadence of this channel. I took a little bit longer editing this one and making an intro, let me know what you think! Also, I’m sure there will be questions as to whether or not we’re stealing dirt/rocks LOL everything behind us is owned by our builders and until they develop it everything is fair game for us so long as it stays in our yard (like I cant take stuff and then go sell it lol).

I’ve got great news. Yesterday, my builder came over to assess my yard. He did that and then he took a panel out of my fence and he completely regraded the whole thing. So, not only is it graded again, he put sifted lom on top and the weeds are gone. It’s amazing. Welcome to the channel. I’m Rachel. I’ve loved all things garden, nature, outdoors since I was a kid. And now this is where I live. I vlog turning my new build yard into a garden in zone 3, Canada with clay soil, bad weather. Why do I live here? Why do I live here? And you guessed it, a short season. [Music] Yesterday they came and they removed this panel out of my fence. They put a bunch of sifted lom out there and I think they’re done. They might be coming back. I don’t know. It seems done, but there’s still a big pile of sifted lom out there. I’m going to take it, I think. And build up some beds and plant the things that I need to plant. And then hopefully they come and put the fence back. A girl can hope. I didn’t end up getting a replacement panel, so I’m just using this old white curtain to try to keep the heat in overnight is mostly it. I’ve been harvesting tomatoes. I canned a couple last yesterday. I canned a couple cans of just like tomatoes. The 10 fingers of Naples are so low moisture that the normal way that I canned tomatoes didn’t work cuz the there wasn’t enough juice in the tomato to fill. So, they’re just like dry and empty in there. Like there’s no juice. So, they’re going to go bad. So, I got to come up with a different way to do it. What was I going to say? Oh, yesterday when they were done grading, or at least I think they’re done grading, I went out and I spray painted a bunch of different like areas just so I could visualize what my yard was going to look like again. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty depressed about my yard with all the weeds and how like it was all messed up. I got to make sure my Ellie stay in here. Realize my dogs can escape out that big hole. What was I saying? I was pretty depressed about how my yard was looking and how little I could do and how much I was waiting on my builder and they were very bad at getting back to me. And then yesterday after like not hearing from them, they did it all in one day, which is great. But I was quite depressed about my yard and it was nice to get out and just like kind of dream again. And so I took my spray paint and I spray painted some areas. I did the campfire area and then um Secret Garden, North Side Shade Garden. Fun thing about that is that I won a Japanese maple on Instagram. How do you go pick it up? Can you believe it? I don’t think I’ve ever won anything in my entire life. And I won a Japanese maple. They are not graded to zone, which is why they were giving them away. They’re basically Oh, my shirt. Oh my god. The place was basically like if you can keep it alive, you can have it. So, I’m hoping to keep it alive. I’m picking the orange ones because I feel like the more that I pick the ripe ones, the more they’re going to turn the other ones ripe. Might not be true, but that’s how I feel. So, yeah, I have a Japanese maple coming. I have to go get that from Chester, which is like an hour drive both ways, so I haven’t gone yet. And figure out where to put that. And I’m very excited. It is Japanese maple time. I am in my car. I got my baby. I got it all. So, we’re going to go do the hour drive there and back. Hopefully, she naps. And uh I don’t know if I have like my pick of the litter, like how many people have come to pick out their tree yet because you get to pick like one of six. So, I might be picking one of one or what. But obviously, I’ll show you. Um but yeah, you ready, Holly? We’re ready. All right, let’s go. Okay, so there’s only red ones left, which is not what your dad wanted, but I don’t mind. I think it’ll be good. She was napping, so she looks a little bit tired. Supposed to park at this middle sign. All right, there it is. And just like that, now we’re drive back home. It’s a blood good maple. It’s rated to zone five, which is horrifying, but we’ll try. I’m like thinking, do I just put it in a pot? Do I just put it in a pot? I don’t know. What do you mean? Okay. So, I’m going to explain to you the next few clips because I did not do any talking. I didn’t feel like grabbing my mic and I also didn’t feel like talking to the camera. So, this is what happened over the next few days. Number one, I was driving to the grocery store and suddenly I was at a plant shop because they had 75% off and I got some really fun shade stuff for the Japanese garden. I started getting really hyperfixated on that area. I was like doing markup drawings on my phone. The next thing I know, I’m getting Jimmy to go pick up like 100 pound boulders for me and bring them into the yard. And I’m over nap time going and digging these things in, placing I’ve got bruises all over my legs. Um, and I start building this Japanese garden. Don’t get anything planted. It’s half done. It’s a halffinish thought if I’m being honest. And then it was the weekend and my in-laws came over and they helped us with the yard. We were kind of raking, getting rid of big clumps because we’re possibly going to seed or sod um before the winter comes. And then we put in a bunch of edging. And so in order to do the edging for the kind of like campfire area, I wanted to put landscaping fabric down because the weeds have been just so crazy. And um so I took out everything that was in that kind of like test garden around the pink spire crab apple other than the willows. It’s just the willow and the crab apple and then one cosmo that I want to save the seeds from cuz it selfseeded and it’s really pretty. Anyway, so I removed everything and put that elsewhere and we put landscape fabric down and then we are edging around it. We haven’t finished the edging around the campfire because the fence is still out and we want to still keep bringing stuff in. So that’s still open and things aren’t quite done there. [Music] And then on top of that, I decided to pick the majority of my jalapenos. They’re really small. It is what it is. And I am going to do some cowboy candy, but I also wanted to make some jalapeno popper dip. Um cuz I made that the other. It was really good. And the one thing that makes it a little bit different than other dip is that I char the jalapenos before I make the dip. And I froze a bunch of those. So, we’re set for a few sundaes. Um, and we had some There’s a little taste test clip. So, I’ll put that in here. Except for I filmed it wrong and our heads are cut off, but you get the gist. [Music] I love you. [Music] [Music] [Music] What’s up? [Music] [Music] It’s very hot. Cheers. Cheers. Oh yeah. What a hangover cure. That’s nice. Yeah. Go Bills. Not too salty or anything. Would you add like garlic powder or something in there? No. Maybe more bacon. Yeah, that’s on me. Oh M face. What’s up? [Music] And it might seem like it’s a really hodge podge week. Like it did some things, didn’t really get a lot done, but the yard looks so so different. And it’s just made me so excited to be back in the garden again. It’s unfortunate that it happened like near the end of September and my season is ending like tomorrow, and it’s officially fall, and summer is officially officially over. Um, our overnight temps aren’t dipping below five for the next little bit, so I’m holding on to some hope there. But yeah, that was this past week in the garden. Got a lot done. I took some drone footage last night cuz the sun was setting and it looked absolutely beautiful. So, I’ll leave that in at the end of this video if you want to keep listening. And yeah, come on back. I think I’m going to plant garlic and then finish up the other beds. So, yeah. Thanks for watching. If you have any tips about Japanese maples and if I should keep it in the pot and just wheel it into my garage to overwinter it or if I should try to just put it in the ground. I’m zone 3 4 and it’s graded to zone 5. Let me know. That is all. Thanks for watching. Bye. Say bye, Ellie. Bye. [Music] Heat [Music] up [Music] here. [Music]
