Hey there, welcome to Wasteless Wonders. Today we’re going to talk about 2023 garden trends. Now, while I was watching some of the videos, I got to thinking that they were so beautiful. They just didn’t feel like they fit with the content. And then I realize why. It’s because I am looking at them through rosecolored glasses. As a glass grower, my viewpoint is skewed by all the beautiful things that can be done with glass. But if I look at these videos from another angle, I see real innovation and ingenuity to solve problems. And when you think about it, isn’t that what gardening is really about? Solving problems with readily available materials to get food on the table. This video has been sponsored by Renafit. When it comes to making your home more energy efficient, you have probably looked at windows. What about doors? Do you have old doors that let the cold air in or the warm air out? Are your utility bills higher than you would like them to be? Reno, a division of a well-known company, can help with that. Renafit makes it easy for homeowners to replace their existing exterior doors with new energy efficient ones. Their new doors come with double or triple pane low emisivity glass with gas fills and warm edge technology to keep the heat in or the heat out. These doors are also made in America and are backed by an excellent warranty. You can save money on your heating and cooling bills and add curb appeal to your home. So, let’s start with Chaos Gardens. The idea behind this style of gardening is that you plant a variety of crops in close proximity, kind of like a jumble sail. Now, the theory is that this will maximize biodiversity, which will attract beneficial insects and wildlife, birds, etc., and that will lead to better pollination and pest control. It sounds kind of crazy, but in practice, it seems to work. It is a great way to use up small spaces, and it looks really good. There are several different ways to make a chaos garden. One way is to start with a large pot and fill it with small pots. Another way is to use a trellis or other support structure and grow a variety of vining plants. The key is to mix it up and have fun with it. Some people even incorporate art into their chaos gardens. Companion planting is another trend that is growing in popularity. This is where you plant two or more crops together that benefit each other. For example, planting basil next to tomatoes can help repel tomato hornworms, which are a common pest. Of course, we love the idea of companion planting because the inner planting adds beauty to the garden and that is something that we ray all about. The third trend that we’re seeing is community- based urban farming. In other words, people are getting together and pulling their resources to grow food together. This could be done by neighbors who live in close proximity or it could be done by members of a community who may not know each other as well. Some examples include balcony gardens, rooftop gardens, community gardens, and even vertical gardens. This trend is driven by a number of factors, including a desire for fresh, healthy food, a need for social interaction, and a sense of community and empowerment. By working together, people can create sustainable food systems that provide everyone with access to nutritious food. This is also a great way to meet new people and build relationships. So, if you’re interested in starting a community garden, there are a lot of resources available to help you get started. But now, let’s get back to our video. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting new trends in indoor gardening. First up, we have wall-mounted planters. These planters can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and plastic. They come in a range of sizes and shapes and can be used to grow a variety of plants, including herbs, vegetables, and flowers. Wall-mounted planters are a great way to add greenery to your home without taking up any floor space. They’re also ideal for growing plants that need a lot of light, such as succulents and cacti. Plus, they make a great statement piece. Another trend that we’re seeing is self-watering planters. These planters are designed to make watering your plants easier and more efficient. They typically have a reservoir of water that the plant can draw from as needed. Self-watering planters are perfect for busy gardeners or those who tend to forget to water their plants. They’re also great for plants that require consistent moisture levels such as ferns and peace liies. And again, they’re just beautiful. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting new trends in outdoor gardening. First up, we have raised beds. Raised beds are a great way to grow plants without having to bend over. They’re also ideal for people with mobility issues. Raised beds can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and plastic. They come in a range of sizes and shapes, and can be used to grow a variety of crops, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Plus, they make your garden look really nice. Another trend that we’re seeing is edible landscaping. This is where you replace traditional landscape plants with edible plants. For example, you could plant fruit trees instead of ornamental trees and shrubs, or you could plant herbs and vegetables in your flower beds. Edible landscaping is a great way to make the most of your garden space while also providing yourself with fresh food. It also makes your garden more sustainable by reducing the amount of water and maintenance required to keep it looking good. Of course, we love the trend toward gardening in general. When you grow your own food, you know that it is fresh and free from pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Plus, it is a great way to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors. Speaking of enjoying the outdoors, don’t forget to take advantage of the nice weather and visit a farmers market. Farmers markets are a great way to support local farmers and businesses. You can find fresh, locally grown produce, as well as other products such as honey, maple syrup, and baked goods. Plus, you’ll likely find unique and interesting varieties of fruits and vegetables that you may not have seen before. Finally, don’t forget to take advantage of all the resources available to help you with your garden. Your local extension office can provide you with helpful information and resources on everything from plant selection to pest control. There are also a number of great books and websites on gardening. With a little effort, you can create a thriving garden that will provide you with plenty of fresh food. When it comes to containers, the sky is truly the limit. There are endless possibilities when it comes to choosing the right container for your plants. We love the idea of reusing everyday objects as containers. For example, old teapotss, bird baths, bathtubs, sinks, buckets, ladders, wheelbarrows, furniture, you name it. There are no rules when it comes to choosing containers. Just use your imagination when it comes to choosing a container. There are a few things to keep in mind. Make sure that the container has drainage holes. If it doesn’t, you can easily drill holes in the bottom with a drill. The next thing you want to consider is the size of the container. Choose a container that is large enough to accommodate the mature size of the plant. The last thing you want to do is plant a tree in a small container. Finally, consider the material of the container. Some materials, such as terraota, will dry out more quickly than others, such as plastic. Choose a material that is appropriate for the type of plant you are growing. If you’re looking for some inspiration, there are a number of great books and websites on container gardening. With a little effort, you can create beautiful and unique container gardens that will add curb appeal to your home. Don’t forget to follow us on social media.
