Experts have noted that “spider mating season” is between September and November in most areas of the US, per Tom’s Guide.

Many Americans try and find ways to keep them out of their homes and away from tiny cracks and gaps in their patios and windowsills during this period.

While there are many costly and potentially toxic sprays available for purchase at many retailers to keep spiders away, Liam Cleverdon, a cleaning exert and director at Flooring King, advised a DIY spray.

Instead of harsh chemicals, the DIY spray uses white vinegar.

White vinegar is not only good at cleaning and getting rid of limescale, but it’s a natural spider repellent.

Spiders have a keen sense of smell, and the vinegar odor can overwhelm and confuse the chemoreceptors on their legs when sensing the environment because it’s so strong.

SAFE TO USE

Additionally, white vinegar spray is non-toxic and safe for indoor use in a living space.

“Vinegar can also be a handy natural deterrent, working in much the same way as essential oils,” Cleverdon told the publication.

“A simple mix of half white vinegar and half water in a spray bottle is enough; just spritz it around door frames, window ledges, or corners where spiders are likely to enter.”

“The only thing to watch out for is varnished or polished surfaces, as vinegar can dull the finish over time,” the expert advised.

“This product is a fabulous cleaning product. It has a nice scent and the vinegar isn’t overpowering,” another added.

“Just fresh and clean bathroom kitchen. 10/10 will buy again,” a third said.

OIL OPTION

While the Vinegar Gel Cleaning Spray from Mrs. Meyer’s is sure to work as a spider-defense option, experts also advised to soak cotton wool balls in peppermint-scented essential oils.

The strong minty fragrance has the same overwhelming power against spiders’ smell.

“Add 15 to 20 drops of peppermint oil to a spray bottle with water and spritz this in any areas where you’ve noticed spiders in the home,” Robert Collins, a pest control expert, told Tom’s Guide.

Amazon sells the Handcraft Blends Peppermint Essential Oil for just $9.

A “dangerous” driveway pest can also be cleared away for cents with a Walmart product already in Americans’ kitchen.

Walmart has even made seven major store changes this year that are affecting shoppers.
