I got a couple moss clumps from my botany professor the other day so i stuck them on some rocks i put in a bowl of water. Would these grow on their own or is there something else i should do to help it grow. It usually sits by my window and gets spritzed down when its dry.

I have only tried growing it on lava rock and it does grow well since it’s porous. I am not sure about how porous your rock is

I would recommend watching “michikusa – how to make terrarium” channel on YouTube. He makes a ton of root-over-rock arrangements.

Depends a bit on the type of moss, but I have a similar dish with rocks & water. I put4 or 5 small pieces, about 25¢ size bits of moss I found growing in the seams in the sidewalk downtown onto. It took keeping it moist for about a year before it finally began to spread. Then very slowly for a couple of months, then fall came & it took off. Over the winter it covered a space on the rock about 6×8”. Now it’s much easier to keep moist, one side has grown to the point it touches where the rock meets water and wicks a lot of water on its own.
[Here’s a link](https://www.reddit.com/r/Moss/s/iP6CJr1diL) to a post I made with some of my dish gardens. A photo of the rock in water dish is included, taken after it began to spread, but before it covered the whole rock.
