The plant was growing zucchinis fine (giant ones when left to overgrow). Then, it caught powdery mildew, so I stripped off most leaves. After that, this and another zucchini grew like this.

Correction, your pumpkin looks like a pumpkin.
allidoizwin_soulfood
Squashes hybridize very easily, your zucchini was likely pollinated by a pumpkin plant

I don’t agree with what you’re doing. I’ve seen day of the triffids.

Looks like a Japanese pumpkin. They look orange inside and taste cross between pumpkin and sweet potato. It makes the most delicious pies and soups.

It is a pumpkin, next question?

It looks like a tatume squash to me. Post some pictures if you cut it open!

This is a Ronde de Nice – a zucchini that is round, and if left on the vine, takes on some pumpkin-like qualities.
There’s no real taxonomical difference between zucchini and pumpkins – *curcubita pepo* is usually what we call zucchini, but the popular sugar pie pumpkin and many other varieties are also members of this species. But most cultivars of *c maxima* and *c mochata* can also be harvested early for a tender, zucchini-like fruit.

This subreddit never ceases to amaze me. It is clear that this is a basil.
Hi y’all! It’s cool to see others think this is so wild like we do. I immediately added some explanatory info comment after posting the photos but it got buried.
This plant has grown summer squash on it before. At least some of these came from the same plant before. It is NOT pumpkin!! I see that I’m getting some heat b/c ppl think it’s pumpkin and think I was mis-IDing it. It’s definitely a type of squash (to which zucchini belongs).
Squash are crazy. You think you plant one thing and get another. It can’t all be the gardener, it happens too often. I grew my first squash this year and am fascinated by how the stalks start looking like zucchini as they mature, on a crookneck squash. The thing was huge, it wanted all of the space.

The CSA I’m a part of calls these 8 ball zucchini since they’re about the size of a magic 8 ball. To me they tasted no different.
