I'm waiting to hear back from their support team on a resolution. I can't imagine bringing any of these plants into my home and am so glad I checked them before this spread to my 100+ collection.

I also just searched the sub and saw that someone had the exact same issue with their compacta. I’m so bummed.

You can spray a little alcohol wherever they are and they will die. Or dip a Q-tip in alcohol and they’ll melt immediately.

I’d have a freakout if I opened a new plant package and it’s *crawling* 🫠 hope you get your money back!

  3. Ugh, the worst. Compacta is one of the hardest ones for pest treatment too, since those mealies can just hide in the curly bits. Time for systemics!

i recently got a disappointing hoya order from bwh too after getting a wonderful alocasia order from them last year. very disappointing! i’m pretty sure everything i received is sick (sigillatis round, latifolia albomarginata, nicholsoniae). sprayed them down and applied sulfur just in case.

Those in Canada, what are you using? I’ve been dealing with mealy bugs for months and they just keep popping up

Stick that thing in a clear recycle bag and Spray that sucker down with triple action plus. Let it sit an hour or two and spray off outside.

I have a nursery and completely understand why someone would be upset by this. I also understand that compacta is particularly hard to treat for bugs to the point where I dont keep them in the nursery anymore. It’s pretty easy to miss problems before they get out of control. I would give them a little leeway on the compacta tbh and fully expect to have to do some extra work to quarantine and consistently treat this plant. I know from a customer’s perspective that may be a hot take. my honest advice is to not buy a compacta if your expectations are to not have pest issues.

I bought a compact Hoya that came with these has a gift. It’s been awful, but someone in another sub recommended peppermint soap mix with water in a spray bottle. I was very surprised how well it worked. Alcohol and regular soap didn’t work and some of the other spray killed my plants.

Omfggggg I’m so sorry about that:(((( bad plant mail sucks

Update: Their customer service was so kind and offered a full refund alongside their tips for how they would treat. Definitely a bummer to have to go through the process of this with four new plants (not all were compactas) but it’s good to know that I’m at least not out the money if they don’t make it through pest control measures.

I just had to throw away about $150 worth of Hoyas all from the same seller on PalmStreet. Mealy bugs and root aphids.

gross 🤢 they’re a pretty large plant company too, they should have pest management and control!

Thank you for calling them out. Plant sellers deserve to be named if they send plants that are obviously infested.

Hii!! This happened to me with my compacta it was INFESTED, what I have done to stop the infestation is cut some leafs with hard to reach crevices (ex:using qtip can break the leaf) I have used a concoction of Lavander, Neem oil, Tee tree oil, alcohol, and water. Spraying every other 3 days and just checking everyday for any stragglers to smash them. It’s been about 5 weeks since I got mine and already seeing so much progress with what I did. I’ve also done a used unused makeup brush and diluted alcohol to wipe her down. If you want to see a current picture let me know :)))
