Gardeners’ World presenter Carol Klein once unwittingly shared a bath with Beatles legend John Lennon, completely oblivious to his fame. At the time, Carol was an aspiring artist in Manchester when The Beatles had just performed at the Oasis club.

Despite not having the funds to frequent one of the city’s major nightclubs, Carol and her friends found themselves at an afterparty where she noticed other girls were excited because “some lads from a group” were there. In her book ‘Hortobiography’, Carol admits she had “heard” of The Beatles but didn’t really know them, reports the Express.

It was in this state of ignorance that she ended up chatting with John Lennon. Carol, 79, said: “I’d heard of the Beatles, but didn’t know much about them. They’d been playing at the Oasis club just down the road from Amigos, I think – I would have never had enough money to go to a club.

“I got talking to one of them but the place was so crowded and the music was so loud, that we retired to the bathroom and sat in the bath to have a conversation. We talked about all sorts of things, but mainly art.”

Carol revealed it was only a long time after the bath incident that she realised who she had spoken with. She said: “He was several years my senior but our chat was very much as equals. He had to go back to Liverpool, I had to go home. I didn’t realise until later that year, when their first 45, Love Me Do and Ps I Love You was released that I’d shared a bath, albeit fully clothed, with someone so famous, John Lennon.”

Carol’s popularity skyrocketed when she joined Channel 4’s Garden Party in 1996, but it wasn’t until 2005 that she became a permanent fixture on Gardeners’ World. Since then, she has become a beloved part of the hit BBC show.

In addition to her work on Gardeners’ World, Carol has filmed numerous gardening shows, including a series from her Glebe Cottage home in North Devon. She has been married to Neil Klein for over 45 years and they share two daughters, Annie and Alice.

Occasionally, she shares glimpses of their life together on Instagram. The Beatles, on the other hand, became the best-selling British musicians of all time, with an estimated 600 million album sales worldwide before their split in the 1970s. Lennon was murdered in New York in 1980. He was shot by Mark David Chapman who was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
