An inquest has opened into the death of a man who was stung after disturbing a wasp nest in his garden.
Philip Douglas Corby, aged 77, was in his garden at home in Exeter when he was stung a number of times, the coroner said.
He collapsed and became unresponsive. An ambulance attended but he sadly died at home.
Coroner Alison Longhorn set out the circumstances during a brief public hearing at County Hall.
She said Mr Corby, from Alphington, was born in Tiverton, married and a retired print maker.
He sadly died on July 28.
Cause of death has been established as anaphylactic shock due to insect sting.
The inquest was adjourned and a full hearing will take place at a later date.
