Gardeners’ World legend Alan Titchmarsh has offered a glimpse into his private life, confessing that he and his wife “might not make it”.

Regarded as one of the country’s most respected gardeners, Alan’s career spans several TV roles including Ground Force and Gardeners’ World, making him a household name when it comes to horticulture.

Following his decision to step down from Gardeners’ World, passing the hosting duties on to Monty Don, Alan hasn’t slowed down, fostering a thriving presence through numerous television programmes and authoring a series of gardening books.

In more recent years, he’s taken to YouTube to share his horticultural wisdom and hosts Love Your Weekend, where he chats with various celebrities.

However, by his side to see his various career achievements down the years, has been his wife, Alison. With the couple soon set to mark their golden wedding anniversary, Alan recently shed light on their time together.

In a heartwarming interview with Saga magazine, Alan discussed how he intended to celebrate their milestone, revealing: “I said, ‘I need to buy you a bit of gold’. Alison said, ‘I’ve got enough. I don’t need any more’. She’s the most non-materialistic person I’ve ever met.”

He joked about their upcoming golden anniversary, saying they haven’t planned anything extravagant and humorously remarked, “we might not make it”, showcasing his humour as he admitted: “I suppose we will do something, but we haven’t done any planning yet – we don’t want a big party.”

He went on to say: “It’s amazing that we have lasted for 50 years. We haven’t got there yet, mind. We might not make it. Take nothing for granted!”

The couple’s journey began when they met during an amateur dramatics group in the early 70s, a meeting that led to dating and eventually their marriage in 1975.

Together, they’ve raised two children, Camilla and Polly, and have enjoyed significant success, now residing in a breathtaking Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse in Hampshire and owning another property by the sea on the Isle of Wight, with their combined fortune estimated at around £10 million.
