Just bought a Alocasia baginda “dragon scale” from my local nursery. I repotted her in a chunky mix I made with 1:1:1 MG potting soil (it was all I had on hand), perlite, and orchid bark with some compost (made from a friend’s remains, pretty neat). I just bought a humidifier as I read they like a bit of humidity, but wants to make sure that was accurate before adding that to her setup. I live in the PNW, she is in a south facing window with dappled direct light for 7-8 hours a day (for now) but that will decrease to 4-5 hours later this fall through winter (the looooong dark approaches). What can I do to keep her happy? This is my second Alocasia and as for my first one – may she rest in peace. Any advice is truly appreciated!

looks like you got basically everything covered! the compost is amazing by the way, very cool and thank you for sharing. soil sounds good, very sensitive to overwatering, but don’t like to completely dry out. i have very average humidity 50-60% and mine do completely fine. biggest thing for alocasia is light, they absolutely love it. they tend to go dormant/growth stunt when they get less light, i keep mine under T5 grow lights for over 13hrs a day. goood luck!

Congratulations! You found the sub, now search it! Use the search bar to search “dragon scale” – just about every topic, issue, care instruction you’ll want and need to know will pop up!

I know the general population thinks reddit is the customer service department of the internet, but let’s try teaching folks to fish instead of giving everyone a fish every single day, huh, guys?

So I have all my alocasias in Pon, which is much more relaxed for me, you can hardly overwater or underwater them.
Unfortunately I can’t really give any tips on the first one.
