Our favorite season, our favorite gardener. She’s here with us today is Stephanie Patton with the Leland Deer Creek Garden Club, getting ready to turn our yards and our homes into fall goodness you’re talking about, you said, fall planters, containers, all the things that we look forward to. Yes, when you go to the nurseries today and this time of the year, it is full of fall flowers. Beautiful. It’s beautiful. Spring has its time, but I’m telling you what fall all has its names that we love. That’s right. That’s right. So if you are into moms and pumpkins and pansies, now, is your your time, your time to shine, it’s your time, and those nurseries are ready for you, yes. And of course, when you go to any nursery right now, they’re going to have a plethora of mums in all kinds of colors. But they also come in different stages. So you can buy blooming, like this one right here is already blooming. You know what color that’s going to be. This one is a little not quite out yet still has some tight buds. Typically, I will get one that’s already flowering. If I have something coming up pretty quickly, like if I tailgating that weekend and I need to do an arrangement, or if I’m having some folks over for dinner and I need some flowers that are already blooming, I’ll go ahead and pick up one of those that are blooming. Tell us some brief maintenance on our mums, because I want to say that you have been with us before. On mums, and there’s a there’s a way to water that that helps you are exactly right. When you water mums, you don’t really want to put water from the top, because it’ll kind of fall off, just because the molding shape that they have can’t assume it’s getting to the dirt. That’s exactly right. So you want to take your grab that water. Candi, right there. You want to take that, I’m going to flip this little hand off, and you can put your nozzle right down in there. And you know, it’s getting where it’s supposed to go. It’s getting to the roots, and it’s going to give a good watering. So I’m so impressed, as you remember, that it’s the teacher, the teacher. So mums are out there in every kind of color, all shapes and sizes, and those nurseries are just ready for you to go through. And they are I can walk the aisles and just stare for hours. I love it. They’re gorgeous. They’re gorgeous. So for containers, what do we need to keep in mind? Well, now I love this container because it looks like our container. It looks like it’s going to be very heavy, and I’m at a certain age, well, I can’t do heavy anymore. This is light as a feather. It is not iron at all. It’s made out of a resin that’s very light. So I love light containers. This is a good size. Of course, you can do a lot bigger if you have more problems. But we’re going to do this one today, and I’m going to use Croton. This is a Croton. You will only see it kind of this time of year. It’s really for the inside. You can do inside or outside. It doesn’t want a whole lot of sun. I just keep it outside. Doesn’t like to be very hot. Maybe a porch. That’s right, that’s right. But it says fall to me. A crook that says fall to me in the same way that pumpkins and moms say fall Aster. This is a pink Aster. I love color. Oh, it’s beautiful in it. It has so many different colors. Asters come in white. They’re really pretty. I’m just gonna stitch this in here, just as an example. And then, of course, you got to have your pansies now. Right now we’re at the end of September. It’s probably still a little warm to put your pansies out. Pansies love cold weather, and they will last all the way through to spring. They are tough. I don’t know why people think pansies. They correlate that to something that’s not tough, because pansies are a tough, tough, tough, and there are so many colors out there too. I love these purple and white, all that together, mixed. It’s just beautiful pop that in there. This is called Money award. It’s also called creeping Jenny. I have that right now at my house. It’s a nice trailer. I love to use it in containers, because because of the trailing aspect, it will just continue to trail down. It will I’ve also got some purple fountain grass here. Now’s the time I hear that this isn’t necessarily going to be a perennial. It’s more of an annual where we live, but you can bring it in and over winter it if you want to keep it from season to season. Okay, it isn’t your local nursery, because they are going to have a lot to choose from. And then, you know, it’s always fun to put a little pumpkin in here, or a little color if you’ve got the, if you’ve got the space, to put a little pumpkin in there and do a nice October arrangement. If there’s room, would that be a spot for the cabbage? The ornamental cabbage? Absolutely, absolutely. I love ornamental cabbage. That is one of my favorite things. It’s like the icing on the cake. When you see an arrangement with the cabbage, it really creates a more upscale look. I feel like that’s a good word, ornamental cabbage, and it will also it pretty much last the same as long as the pizzas really Yes, into spring Monday, yeah, and I think it’s because of where we live, yeah, we have such a nice, mild winter. Well, we are excited. Stephanie, thank you so very much for always bringing the best hints and tips to get our yards and homes looking festive for any upcoming holiday. The weather might not scream fall, but we’re ready for it, regardless, joining us today with the best fall help is Leland, Deer Creek Garden Club, Stephanie Patton.
